Governorates of Palestinian National Authority/Template for depopulated Arab villages[edit]

Hi Abnn, I wanted to know If i can remove the lower map of the Palestinian governorates article because I believe with the other map being more accurate on the administrative borders and administative areas the lower map is not needed. I know it was not you who reposted it (it was user User: Rarelibra) but i want to make sure if it is alright that i remove it again.

On a second note, I have built and expanded some more articles on the depopulated Arab villages of 1948 and was wondering if we should start on the template for the villages? - Al Ameer son

Thanks, you did remove the map I was speaking of. I'm going to keep building new articles on the depopulated villages and maybe sometime we can nominate a collaboration for a template on them.

- Al Ameer son

That sounds good, because it's a hassle to make a single template for 400 to 500 former villages. Especially since many have the same name like Mansura, Julis, Abu Shusha, Tira, Tayibe, Na'ura etc.

Palestinian Diplomatic missions[edit]

I notice you have made several changes to this article which go against the style of the other 130 Diplomatic Missions by Country articles, including

  • heading hierarchy;
  • position of photograph (goes at top of article);
  • name (The PNA prefers to call its missions 'Embassy of the State of Palestine', not 'Embassy of the Palestinian National Authority' as it sounds less like a 'normal' country. By virtue of naming things according to what they choose to identify with, the article should be called Palestinian diplomatic missions)
  • linking (we add links at the end of the article, not hyperlinking every city).

Some of these changes are trivial, but it is preferable that the article resembles other articles in this category.

Kransky 13:52, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kransky. I apologize for changing the style internally of the article. That can be changed back. Regarding the name. It's complex in the sense that there are many on Wikipedia who are insistent that Palestine is not a country and it shouldn't be treated as one. This manifests itself as regular article renamings and regular deletion of categories which use the simple name "Palestine" in such a way that someone can construe it as a reference to a state. See here for a few examples of what I am talking about:

Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Category:Occupation_of_Palestine Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Palestine Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2006_August_25#Category:Cities_in_Palestine Wikipedia:Stub_types_for_deletion/Log/2006/October/16#.7B.7BPalestine-stub.7D.7Ds Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_January_1#Category:Palestine Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_January_9#Palestinian_territories Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_May_11#Palestine-related_CFRs The basic implicit rules seem to be that one can use "Palestinian territories" / "Gaza Strip" / "West Bank" to refer to geographic locations, "Palestinians" to refer to the people themselves and "Palestinian National Authority" to refer to the attempt at self-government unless there is a specific name of a document or declaration ("State of Palestine" or "Palestinian Declaration of Indepedence".) It sort of sucks, but it seems that if you fight it, it just results in all the articles getting disjointed and screwed up. Thus for consistency sake within the Palestinian articles I strongly suggest sticking with PNA as the "country" name of the government related articles. Do you understand my reasoning?

Thank you for the response. I acknowledge the sensititivies involved. I refer you to the principle of self-identification found in [[1]] (look at the example of the Maputa/Cabindan hypothetical), which guides naming practices for Diplomatic Missions by Country articles. This rule even applies for countries partially recognised or with contriversial names (Myanmar, Israel, Republic of China, Macedonia - there is even the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus diplomatic missions article for a country only recognised by one other). The PNA people refer to their own government and its entities as Palestinian, and so to their diplomatic missions will this principle be applied. The advantage of the rule of naming things descriptively, not prescriptively is that we avoid disputes.

1947-1948 Palestinian civil war[edit]

Hell Abnn,
I have just seen your message dated May 10 on Talk:1947-48 Palestinian civil war.
Efraim Karsh and Yoav Gelber in books dedicated to this war used the words "civil war" to describe the period from Nov 30 to May 14. Benny Morris, in Victims (...) uses them too.
I will report them on the talk page. I think with what you got yourself, we have enough material to source the title 1947-48 Palestinian civil war.
Regards, Alithien 06:17, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

NB: I fully agree with your comments about sources and the idea of expanding this article in a dedicated area before to introduce it. The French version is sourced and well developed (fr:Guerre civile en Palestine de 1947-1948) but unfortunately my English is too poor so that I can translate this.

Salata???[edit]

Hi Abnn. I noticed you added "also referred to as Salata" to the article about Balata. Is that a local term in Nablus that refers to the camp? Is it (سلطة) or (سلاطة)? It seems to me like a joke where every reference to Balata was changed to Salata. (see here). What do you think? --Fjmustak 23:30, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Kafr Yasif and Shaghur images[edit]

As-Salaam u Alaikum Abnn, I was wondering you or I would somehow be able to add the picture of Downtown Kafr Yasif and Shaghur from their Hebrew article to the English one. I tried but I dont think they are in the same format. The link to the hebrew articles are here, [2] [3] -- Al Ameer son 17:21, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Israeli-Palestinian conflict[edit]

Hello. There is a dispute going on regarding whether or not to call the issue of Israeli Settlements an 'obstacle' to peace or not. I would appreciate your input on this matter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Israeli-Palestinian_conflict#Proposal:_.22obstacle.22_.E2.86.92_.22factor.22

Image source problem with Image:Kahvihuone.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Kahvihuone.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:41, 9 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Beit Or 18:41, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Arab citizens of Israel[edit]

Renaming Arab Israelis to Arab Citizens of Israel has come up again. Want to cast your vote?LamaLoLeshLa (talk) 07:30, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Help, please[edit]

I was editing the Racism in Israel article. I wrote a paragraph on a poll produced the the Tel Aviv Univeristy on Israeli high schoolers attitude towards Israeli Arabs; I erased part of a paragraph that I deemed as being unbalanced in favour of Israeli (the paragraph basically blamed "Arab aggression" for instances of Israeli Jewish street violence); and then I wrote on the Talk Page about what I regarded as pro-Israel bias in the article's style. A user, User:Cptnono, undid all of my edits. He left me a message on my Talk Page in which he asked me to provide further reasoning on my actions on that article. I did, and I agreed to discuss with him the paragraph I had removed and he later restored. But I informed him that I would restore the paragraph re the Tel Aviv University poll since it was properly sourced and worded. I would like a user and better yet an administrator to, please, observe further unfoldings on that article and its talk page. I have received in my talk page a message by another user who accused User:Cptnono of being a biased, pro-Israel POV warrior that is skilled in scalating conflicts. He also issued me a warning due to the paragraph that I had removed before. He's no administrator. Can he really do that? I'm User:Guinsberg. 186.212.104.16 (talk) 03:55, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
