Where did it all start?'
[edit]Downs Road Clapton Hackney E5 (1967-68) in the Basement, where many bands in those days used as a rehearsal room. For me, my dad George Brightly use to rent his basement for christenings and other things like wedding parties and so on, and that's where it all started for me, watching bands play music, and then with my dad having a night club, I as able to see many bands perform. So by the age of eight I knew I wanted to be a star of some kind so I could be on the TV. So I would always tell my mum that’s what I want to be, so I had to work out how to get there.
Well my Dad use to play a lot of jazz music and one of the main artistes he would play was a man by the name of Jimmy Smith, who played the organ, and I use to love how he made it sound. so I ask my mum to buy me a little organ that I saw in the music shop on mare street, the shop was called Berry's, and I would walk to the shop every week to see if it was still in there until I was able to put the deposit down. Then I had to work out how to play the organ, so still being in primary school I started to play the Treble Recorder and the Regular Recorder, at the same time I paid for me to go to piano lessons, and I did that for two years, one day my friend Owen Hewitt ask if I wanted to be in a group and I said yes but I can’t play properly yet, he said to me don't worry they will teach you and that the group was call Mysterons 5
(1969-71)Earl Lewis bass, Robin Lewis drums, Owen Hewitt Rhythm Guitar, Armstrong Lead Guitar, this group used to play in the three crown pub in stoke Newington on church street, we also played at Clissold Park School in 1970, then after that we had to break up because Earl and Robin want back to Trinidad with their parents. By this time my Dad had got me some more equipment so with that I was able to play music with my friends and some friends of friends like Alan Weeks, Elroy Bailey, Keith Drummond just to name a few.
(1971 - 1973) By this time I thought I was ready to make a record, being only eleven my friends in school thought I was mad, my teacher just said yes Anthony, Elroy said he would come, but he thought it was a joke as well, I said to Keith Come if you want to sing a record, being six years younger than him he still gave it a go. Eventually, the day came to make the record and only Keith and I turned up, so I ask a friend from school to play bass for me, as Elroy did not turn up for the session. His name was Jeff Caprice from Hackney Downs School, he said yes, so we bunked off school to make our first record at Tangerine Studio on Kingsland road E8. I recorded two tracks, Mixed up man, which was later rerecorded by Black slate, and a version of Wailers concrete jungle, with out even knowing that was what it was, because it was a track that we use to jam to in the schools common room.
To all the non believers I then want to school the next day with my master tape to my music class, and said to my teacher have a listen to my record, he looked at me with disbelief, I play the tape and want around the grand piano and played along with it. He then went straight to the headmaster, I thought I would be in trouble because he worked out that t I left school early, but instead he asked if he could use it for Friday morning assembly, from that point on the whole school new my name. THEN I was introduced to The Wailer album” Catch a Fire” by a Tape, I then travelled to New Market air Base to do a show and listen to that cassette there and back, It changed my life. Then one day on my way to football I went pass the Sundown and saw Bob Marley’s name on a poster, I ask my Dad to take me, which he did and put me on the stage beside the keys in my Plaid jacket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8zsKiwx5sY if you look you will see me 12 years old. After this I was hooked and music took over my life. Then shortly after that a leaflet was circulated around hackney, advertising a music competition at the Phoebes night Club on Amhurst road, everybody was talking about it. To my surprise, I was told that the backing band was looking for a keyboard player and if I would play, so I went for it.
The band did not have a name at first, so when we did our first show we where named The Young Ones From Zion, yes, what a name, but we did perform with many named artiste, in that band was Piget King, Desmond Mahoney, Chris Hanson, Clive on Bass, and my self on keys. This wants on every week for about a year. Then we wanted more….
(1974 -1976) So we left Phoebes and want back to my Dads House to rehearse in the basement, by this time we had a new lead singer, her name was Sandra Reid, she was one of the competition winners, we also worked with a few different artist, by this we where getting busy and we were looking at different avenues on how to exploit our selves more. so first of all we though our name was too long, so we changed the name to Black Slate which meant” black” for who we are as a race and” slate” was used back in the olden days in schools so slate was used to represent caring our music with a message, we changed our bass player to Elroy Bailey, Piget King left to become a full time session musician and the later formed the band Tribes Man , and I was left to be the keyboard player in the band .We started to do a lot of backing for Errol Dunkley, we went all over England with him, we also went back to Phoebes to help with another Phase of there competition, then we move on to do more backing, like Prince Jazzbo, Johnny Clark, Cornell Campbell to name a few.
We then started to work on our own stuff, by this time we added Keith Drummond to become our lead singer, and went to the studio to record the same song again Mixed up man and lay your head on my shoulders at Island studio in Ladbroke Grove, London which was released on the king George Label, which also belonged to my dad.
During the same time, being at school, playing my Dads sound system Sir George Sound, I then started to make dub plates, because I was unable to afford to buy them, which lead me to make my own. So I started to make records for the sound, out of which came Sticks Man and Piano Twist, by this time we stop backing totally. Performing all over England as black Slate with young Rob Hallet as our booking agent, and my Dad George Brightly as our manager. Due to the under ground sound system success of my dub plates, My Dad was forced to release Sticks Man and Piano Twist, which both became a European wide success and top 5 in the U.K Reggae Charts.

Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Abrightly, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you edited was Anthony brightly, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

[edit]Hello, Abrightly. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Black Slate, you may have a conflict of interest.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

Explanation
[edit]Hi. I know getting bombarded with warnings isn't fun. I want to explain what the deal is here at Wikipedia. We are not here to be ad space. Even when we write about people, places, or things we have to be encyclopedic and neutral. I'm glad that you've caught on to how easy it is to edit Wikipedia and you're excited to be editing. the problem is, none of your editing has met our rules about content. So, if you want to learn about how to do this the right way, please ask. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:04, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
