Information icon Hello, I'm Uhai. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Karim R. Lakhani, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Uhai (talk) 17:15, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Academic.blog", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Academic.blog. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Karim R. Lakhani, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:36, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your note. We will make sure we abide by the policies at Wikipedia. There are several professors that have a detailed Wikipedia profile. If Karim Lakhani has asked us to update his profile, and we are only synthesizing information from public sources, are we violating any policy? Is there another way to update the profile of a professor? Academic.blog (talk) 21:10, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia does not have "profiles", not a single one. Wikipedia has articles. If you are working with the subjects of your edits that is a severe conflict of interest. If you receive any form of compensation for this, the Terms of Use require you to make a formal paid editing disclosure. You should not directly edit articles related to your conflicts of interest, but you may make formal edit requests(click for instructions) on article talk pages, detailing changes you feel are needed.
Also note that only a single person should have access to and be operating your account. Your username seems like it is the name of a website, this is against the username policy. I am capable of changing your username if you tell what it is you want to change it to. 331dot (talk) 13:07, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, club, organization, company, or website, I have blocked this account from editing. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username on this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken or in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
