If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Please also read this helpful advice for students.

Before you create an article, make sure you understand what kind of articles are accepted here. Remember: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and while many topics are encyclopedic, some things are not.

Your instructor or professor may wish to set up a course page, and if your class doesn't already have one please tell your instructor about that. It is highly recommended that you place this text: {{Educational assignment}} on the talk page of any articles you are working on as part of your Wikipedia-related course assignment. This will let other editors know this article is a subject of an educational assignment and aid your communication with them.

We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay even after your assignment is finished! Dr Aaij (talk) 15:34, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A goat for you!

And Rosie wanted you to have a goat. I don't know why, but what Rosie wants, Rosie gets.

  • The problem here is that the first link is (apparently) to his own website--I can't see it cause it's dead--and that is thus the opposite of an independent source. How reliable it is, who knows--but it can't attest to the fact that the things mentioned (his interests, etc.) are of any encyclopedic relevance. The second one is from something that is NOT a reliable source. Authorsden.com doesn't sound very reliable: it looks like just another website with no editorial oversight. Please look at WP:RS. If you do it again, and find two reliable sources, you'll get the points. Dr Aaij (talk) 16:08, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Aaij (talk)

Dr Aaij, I have found two new sources that have most of the information that is in the article. Both are from news sites, would you consider them to be reliable? Aidelprin (talk) 14:54, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, I don't know why I didn't get this ping--there was something wrong with the coding. I upped the points some; the second reference was a website--well, a "magazine", but I saw no editorial statement or any other indication that this was a carefully edited and reliable source. Local article

[edit]

So, there is something to do for Elmore County--the history of its lynchings. Here is the killing of one man, and here two men in what appears to have been the same case. These two pages are on a website run by an Alabama professor, which makes it reasonably acceptable--but note that the pages have a Works Cited, and that greatly enhances its status. Of course you could find those articles and cite them directly. Here is another. Scroll down this article; halfway down, in 1898 a mob of white men take four Black men from a jail and murder them. The article on Robin White has another such invasion of the Wetumpka jail, in 1915, when two men were killed--that information was added to Elmore County, Alabama, by editor User:PaulinSaudi. And you may recall that I mentioned in class that the Montgomery Advertiser is trying to atone for its past, and here is where they did for the Robin White murder. This article from 1902 comments on it as well. And here is another murder from the mid-1930s; and here is how a buggy accident leads to killings.

So there are a few things to consider, and I think the best of them, given that a half a dozen sources is not an enormous amount, is to create Lynchings in Elmore County, Alabama or something like that, and put all of those murders in there. I think the EJI memorial downtown has a dozen names from Elmore County, so there is more to find. This is an article worth writing, and the material is there.
