Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Aklowry, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of your edits have not conformed to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and have been reverted. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles.

There is a page about the verifiability policy that explains the policy in greater detail, and another that offers tips on the proper ways of citing sources. If you are stuck and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  Toddst1 00:04, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Christopher Elkington, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Christopher Elkington seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Christopher Elkington, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Professor Michael J. Kennedy, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.universityscience.ie/pages/scientists/sci_michael_j_kennedy.php. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 00:01, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Professor Michael J. Kennedy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Professor Michael J. Kennedy. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. advice and warning about COI -- November 2007

[edit]

I came here to request that you add sufficient information to the article on Christopher Elkington to keep it from deletion--a list of publications, for example, and some works about him. But it appears that you have been creating many of the entries of probably notable people connected with Lancing College by directly copying their brief bios from from various places on the web--and this is altogether unacceptable.

The articles are undoubtedly going to be deleted rapidly unless you provide sufficient information, and suitable sources, and unless you write them yourself. For an idea of what is necessary, see WP:BFAQ, and also WP:COI. In general there has to be sufficient information to demonstrate that they are notable according to WP:N and its sub-rules, as shown by their accomplishments, and demonstrated by third party reliable sources talking about them in a substantial way. Newspaper articles, book reviews, and so on. But you must write the material yourself, not copy it from elsewhere.

The many articles you are doing will cause us substantial difficulty here in rewriting them, expanding them or removing them--one or these will be necessary for all of them. If you continue doing this , I warn you that you will quite possibly soon be blocked to prevent the addition of copyright violations and non-notable content to the encyclopedia. - I will be happy to explain further in detail. AfD nomination of Sinclair Beecham

[edit]

I have nominated Sinclair Beecham, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sinclair Beecham. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:53, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Desmond Wyndham Otho FitzGerald requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Call me Bubba (talk) 23:34, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mowbray Howard, 6th Earl of Effingham

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Mowbray Howard, 6th Earl of Effingham, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non-notable officer; redirect to Earl of Effingham#Earls of Effingham (Second Creation, 1837)

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
