Kim Dong-hyun

Exactly, and Kim is a professional fighter.

Also the fact that you said amateur record is a part of a fighter as much as his professional record shows you clearly don't know what you are talking about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamechanger (talkcontribs) 18:55, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Lol this page is not about his life, and Dong Hyun Kim is not a very well known guy for a page about his life to exist.

And well known fighters don't have amateur records on their page, neither should Kim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamechanger (talkcontribs) 19:10, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Dong Hyun Kim is known for being a professional fighter, not his personal life lol.

No professional fighter has there amateur record posted on there page, even though there amateur records are well known.

The fact that you suggested amateur records should be posted on everyones page is ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gamechanger (talkcontribs) 19:18, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

The FLAG issue

I suppose revisiting the whole flags in MMA articles would be once again fruitless? I only bring it up because our favorite multi-national MMArtist Krzysztof Soszynski. There are still a lot of changes of his flag from Poland to Canada. I normally revert these changes for a couple reasons: 1) The editors NEVER source the change; 2) If we are going to have flags in MMA articles (which I think we shouldn't) then Soszynski is Polish as a double whammy. He was born there and he is billed from there. I know the two are directly related, however there is nothing supporting a Canadian flag. I can't even find any solid evidence that he's a Canadian citizen, although I would assume he is. I have read through the discussion archives and none of the conversations went anywhere. I have a feeling they would suffer a similar fate this time around. Was just wanting your input on the issue. Thanks. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 05:22, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

fedor

It just seems he fits more perfectly with the UKR-RUS nat, seeing as that by definition is a Ukrainian who moves to / becomes Russian--Львівське (talk) 23:20, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

  • No prob, no sense getting into a revert war, either one is correct. As far as UkrSSR goes...I dunno. I can see people not assuming it, but at the same time it's the "Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic", seems redundant to me (like writing Rome, Italy, European Union). Clicking the link makes it obvious....I guess it could go either way.

I fixed the following sentence to clear up any possible confusion / keep the prose flowing.--Львівське (talk) 01:04, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

  • MOS doesn't really have this stuff covered. Had a whole fit with it recently (the guys there seemed to agree with the form of CITY>COUNTRY over CITY>UNION but it never really got resolved. When it went to a vote on the WP handling the article I was dealing with, it was a 6 to 4 split against it, contrary to the MOS discussion. Do you say London, England? Or London, United Kingdom? Same form applies for US (NY,NY not NY,USA)--Львівське (talk) 01:48, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

LIAR

It's not a good practice when you deleted the material and lied about a consensus, then started the discussion the next day. See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mixed_martial_arts#List_of_.22notable_fighters.22_at_Strikeforce Sea888 (talk) 17:44, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

House_of_Pain_(Apparel)

You contributed to the Afd: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/House_of_Pain_(Apparel) It seems odd to me ExistGhost created the new page on his first contribution to wikipedia and he required no edits. Perhaps he diligently used a sandbox or perhaps he is a sockpuppet. I have not the tools or knowledge to investigate. Lattefever (talk) 14:06, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Lattefever

Thanks. I noticed you are a fan of MMA. So I have to ask, Pride or UFC? I love them both. Pride had the artistic element and sportsmanship, UFC has better US fanbase and more frequent shows. Lattefever (talk) 15:45, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Lattefever
How did some user edit your MMA box to "hoax", that was a clever, childish trick. Or did you do it on purpose? Lattefever (talk) 17:14, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Lattefever

RE: Flags

Thanks for your input. As a side note I have also noticed that there aren't many of us active on the MMA project lately. I wonder what's up with that? --Drr-darkomen (talk) 18:57, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

MMA Event Rumours

Hey, I wanted to ask you what is the exact policy of rumours and rumoured participants regarding upcoming MMA events? For instance, see DREAM.12, I thought to remove those rumours by now, though I already had an argument with the other regular Japanese MMA editor about sources. Cheers, (Justinsane15 (talk) 20:26, 14 August 2009 (UTC))

What constitutes a reliable source for a rumor. It seems like major non-sense to me to disregard the YouTube video clip, and Nightmare of Battle (one of the most reliable blogs regarding Japanese MMA on the net). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Internetsss (talkcontribs) 17:35, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Carano

That joker appears to be gone now, but I'm still keeping an eye on the page.(Justinsane15 (talk) 05:18, 16 August 2009 (UTC))

Re: Goldberg

I can't really see anything wrong with those edits, except for the fact that the references are hard to verify because Template:Cite episode is used, although, obviously, that is acceptable. The "do not change the order of these moves" is just there becasue ips tend to change the moves out of alphabetical order, which is how they should be organised. As far as I can see, the ip has added the new moves in alphabetical order, so that's not a problem. ♥NiciVampireHeart10:10, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, actually interestingly enough this was brought up at WP:PW's talk page by a different user, see WT:PW#Cite Episode? and consensus there seems to be that cite episode shouldn't be used for move lists as it's interpretation by the viewer on what the move actually is, and therefore OR. ♥NiciVampireHeart23:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Input here please. What can/should be done with this IP? It has received no less than 9 warnings this month for nonconstructive editing practices. And you can see the prior history as well. Do you generally report this sort of thing on ANI after final warning? Thanks. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 22:29, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. Always looking for guidelines on how to be most effective in these situations. Most things that I run in to aren't strictly vandalism. I would say 90% is unsourced changes. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 00:18, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
The section stays? Who does this guy think he is? Talk about not working well with others and not listening to rational arguments... --Drr-darkomen (talk) 19:22, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. Let's revisit the situation in a few days. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 19:33, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Just one simple problem, the discussion completely ignores all the relevant sources out there. The proposition that Drr-daromen used to justify sources for the section was simply his proposition and not wikipeadia's. MMAweekly is a credible source.Sea888 (talk) 23:54, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Chiefwi66ums

Very odd finding their way to the Strikeforce talk page on their second edit. Especially since the first edit was not MMA related. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 03:03, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

px

I added the {{px}} template to {{infobox Martial artist}}, so it should work properly now if the size is specified with or without the px. Thanks for letting me know about the problem. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:31, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Matt Hughes

Can you take a look at it? Seems some reverts might be in order.

ThanksDavid.snipes (talk) 23:21, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Lack of experience reverting stuff, I do feel that he does deserve a legacy- If he is done then he does deserve that portion, How it is written, I have no idea- I will revert clear and obvious needs, But I honestly don't know what should or should not stay in the Bio Section. Some people will just wholesale wipe out all the section I am never 100% if there is anything worth keeping. David.snipes (talk) 18:20, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for proving my point, I do not have the experience as of yet to spit out policy and procedures as it attains here. In additon I am NOT comforable basically writing on someones board "hey stop this type of editing or I will get you banned" or reporting people to the admins as some are. I felt that someone with more experience would be better off in determining who is preaching from the wiki and who is simply good naturedly doing editing the article. I figure it is better for someone like you to "bite the newbies"David.snipes (talk) 20:01, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

GSP - BJ Penn vaseline "controversy"

Since you are a frequent editor of MMA related content, I wanted to tell you that I made an edit removing some unsourced material from GSP's page. If you disagree with my explanation on the talk page, feel free to revert me. I will defer to your judgement. Lattefever (talk) 14:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Lattefever

Belt Level & Infobox Martial artist biography Template/Infobox MMAstats Template

"Infobox Martial artist biography" uses "Rank" see Georges St-Pierre for example, I propose adding rank to "MMAstatsbox" so as to eliminate the need for "Belt Level" see Anderson Silva for example. The edit function text from the "Belt Level" box is being pushed over text in the article see Kenny Florian for example (note dependent on window size). Phospheros (talk) 17:01, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Yeah switching to Infobox Martial artist biography was actually my first instinct, I was just a bit put off by all the work it would entail. I guess I'll just start slowly plugging away at it, though obviously a bot would be the best solution. Phospheros (talk) 20:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Alright I did Anderson Silva as a test case, a few things I noticed are we should probably have a "mmadq" for disqualification and I had to use "url" as opposed to "website" to get the "the official website" to work. Wasn't sure about weight as Silva fights at both 185 & 205 (which I listed for weightclass and then linked to MMA MW & MMA LHW) and his street weight is said to be 220. Let me know what you think. Phospheros (talk) 01:55, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Forgot to ask... what about "Years active" if it's just MMA then it's 5/27/2000 but he first boxed in 5/22/1998, which to use as a start date? Phospheros (talk) 02:04, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
One more thing :\ for "birth name" I put "Anderson da Silva" in the talk section for his page under "Birth name vs. most commonly used name" a commenter notes that his full name according to Brazilian birth records (but without a source) is Anderson De Souza Da Cunda Da Silva Dos Santos, the commenter then provides a long explanation of the name, any thoughts? Phospheros (talk) 02:17, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

FK

Take a look, see if what I said is valid. (yeah you got the short straw this week, thats what you get for being helpful)

In a seperate issue, maybe in the MMA group we need a consensous in what is and is not a vaild source, maybe a listing of sites that can be quoted as legit- so its not just Sherdog or Yahoo. I'm not saying TMZ is a valid source (see death of Kimo) but you get my point.

David.snipes (talk) 00:53, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Dana White

I substantially changed the "Controversy" section on the Dana White page. Feel free to undo. See talk. Lattefever (talk) 19:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Lattefever

In case you were to miss it, being an old conversation and all, I compiled a list of notable UFC fighters according to the guidelines discussed for strikeforce and it can be found here. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 15:25, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Yeah it took quite a bit of time for sure. I probably spent a few hours on it. But you asked for it so I figured why the hell not.  :) --Drr-darkomen (talk) 15:44, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

residence vs fightingfrom

I'm changing Brock Lesnar's Infobox over to "Infobox martial artist" but I'm not sure what to do for residence as he is not a resident of Minneapolis – Saint Paul, Minnesota but that is where he is listed as fighting out of. Phospheros (talk) 15:27, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Adding "fighting out of" Sounds like a plan :) Phospheros (talk) 16:15, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Infobox martial artist

Thanks for adding the dq options to the template. As far as I can tell, the reason why fightingoutof doesn't work is that it's the same as residence, which is the more standard name for this information. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:24, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh and be careful with changing the syntax for website as this was left to keep backwards compatibility with the old {{infobox martial artist}} which used a link rather than a bare url. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:27, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Record discrepancy sherdog vs mixedmartialarts.com

Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira's record differs with regard to Enson Inoue...
Sherdog = Technical Submission (Triangle Choke)
MMA = KO (Triangle Choke)
So should it be counted under KO's or Subs? Phospheros (talk) 16:25, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

We have another one to keep our eyes on. Doesn't care about policy, wants to add whatever he feels like and then argue about it. Yay!. --Drr-darkomen (talk) 00:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Pride:Final Conflict.

Almost stepped on each other there- I was workin on it! Guess I need to get the revert going rather than rebuilding. David.snipes (talk) 20:16, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Its not an armbar. Its a Dongbar if Hyun Kim or Yoon does it. You stand corrected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.109.87.202 (talk) 20:59, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Gah

Im confused when I later made a constructive edit to Yoshihiro Akiyama it got reverted. Whats the deal with wiki? Also I agree with you about villian but maybe with heel in brackets or something like that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.109.87.202 (talk) 21:10, 31 August 2009 (UTC) Also Akiyama does refer himself to Sexayama as to the argument you had earlier in the discussion of Akiyama —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.109.87.202 (talk) 21:12, 31 August 2009 (UTC) Sorry I shouldn't of brought it up as I don't know the exact link but I think it was on mixedmartialarts.com or sherdog.com--24.109.87.202 (talk) 21:18, 31 August 2009 (UTC) Also sorry because I don't know much about editing wiki but is there some sort of template for Mixed Martial Artists? I'm sorry that i am asking you all these questions but I don't know who else to ask. So I have to make an account to create articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.109.87.202 (talk) 22:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
