A tag has been placed on User:OaklandHousePress/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. July 2017[edit]

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Orange Mike | Talk 01:51, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I am a small-time publisher, Oakland House Press. This summer I have my nephew working with me; he is in marketing, and he took it upon himself to fix what he saw was a glaring missed opportunity by setting up an Oakland House Press Wikipedia user account. He went through a short tutorial; corrected a mis-statement of fact on a musician's page; drafted a short article about a minor historic character -- Ann Abajian Norehad -- while also referencing an Oakland House Press book in which she appears; then he drafted an article about another Oakland House Press title, "Among the Fourth Graders." It was then that he came to me with the bad news that he had gotten blocked for "promotional" use of Wikipedia, in violation of standards. I could have told him that! I then found out that my IP address was also blocked. Damn kid. I have been using Wikipedia since its infancy and have used it every single day since. In turn, Wikimedia Foundation has been a recipient of my annual charitable giving. I do it for the very reason that my nephew neglected in his earnest attempts to bolster the image of Oakland House Press. I would like to now unblock my IP address. If I could I would like to create a new user, Albion40, which I may or may not use, but which will not be used as a promotional tool for my small publishing outfit. Thank you.

Decline reason:

Accounts are strictly for the use of one person only. Since you are editing on an account apparently used by your nephew the account security is compromised and will not be unblocked. However, I will speak with the blocking admin and take his view on removing the autoblock and I will post the result, here. Just Chilling (talk) 19:05, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have unblocked the IP so you can edit with your accounts. However, it is important that you steer well away from references to Oakland Press else the block will be reimposed. Just Chilling (talk) 16:36, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
