db-author[edit]

I tagged a page you requested deletion of with {{db-author}}, producing the following: Template:Db-author. That can be helpful if you make any other mistakes in page creation. Thanks for creating these species pages on wikipedia. Subject expertise is always welcome. Cheers and happy editing!--Kchase02 T 01:23, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm going to be working on them over the next few days. Alois visagie 23:08, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

btw, you might also consider creating an ant stub type if you're going to create a lot of these. I can help with that. Just leave a msg here.--Kchase02 T 02:25, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That would be really helpfull.

I started looking, and apparently we already have one. Use {{Ant-stub}}. --Kchase02 T 02:31, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, did you forget? (the ant-stub template above?)--Kchase02 T 12:27, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ah! sorry. will start using it.

ANTS[edit]

KEEP UP THE EXPANSION! GOOD WORK! James Janderson 12:49, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm getting the basics down first, and then will progress to adding information on known ranges, habitats etc. Regarding wikipedia fair use of images, if I get permission from copyright holders to use their images of specific species, how do I go about showing this so the images arent pulled?

{helpme} I don't know the answer, but someone should be along shortly...--Kchase02 T 13:01, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
With fair use (Wikipedia:Fair use) you don't need permission from the photo owner. You are basically claiming that the image is so special (ie it's the only one in existence and no others will ever be made) that anyone can use it for critical commentary.
If you get permission from a copyright holder to use their image in Wikipedia, we can't accept it (unless we use fair use). Wikipedia images must be free, so we need the copyright holder to release it under a free licence (fair use is the exception to free images). Info: Wikipedia:Image use policy, Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.--Commander Keane 13:11, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Myrmica[edit]

What a massive job you have taken up to yourself.... Let me know if I can help with admin related stuff that you might run into... -- Kim van der Linde at venus 18:38, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do I remove the disambiguation comment from this page?

Thanks.... A.V

[1] like so. I also rewrote ("wikified") the text. Feel free to revert (reverse) me.--Kchase02 T 20:49, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GIS/ Mapping software[edit]

Does anyone have any knowledge on GIS/Mapping software I can use to display global and regional population distributions for the various species. I'm just looking for something basic at first that will allow me to put 'species' against a country/region of a country and export this as a image I can embed into the page showing the distribution of the species worldwide.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Alois visagie (talkcontribs)

Generally, people won't respond to questions you leave on your own talk page. You can put {{helpme}} on your talk page to get some help with general wikipedia stuff, but this question is too specific. Kim van der Linde studies fruit flies, so she might be able to help you out with such a program (her talk page is the "at venus" link after her signature above). If she can't help you, try the Wikipedia:Village pump or the Wikipedia:Help desk. Whatever you do, sign your message with four tildes, ~~~~, and consider asking for a response on your talk page. Hope that helps!--Kchase02 T 20:33, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
