ProSoft Technology, Inc. is a global provider of industrial communication interfaces designed to create interoperability between industrial control systems and automation devices that operate on disparate networks. At the time of the company's founding in 1988, the few manufacturers of large scale automation and control systems utilized proprietary network protocols in their control systems. While working as a system integrator on a project for Texaco, ProSoft Technology founder Douglas Sharratt discovered a need to communicate between an Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and a Supervisory and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that operated on the Modbus protocol, a serial protocol developed by Modicon. Sharratt recognized this functionality as a need harbored by a sizable customer base, and eventually obtained the necessary technology licenses to develop the first Modbus communication interface for an Allen-Bradley PLC. This initial product lead to a partnership with automation giant, Allen-Bradley (now branded by Rockwell Automation), and the incorporation of ProSoft Technology in 1990.

The ability to bridge between proprietary automation equipment was a breakthrough that, in effect, broadened the range and combination of solutions available to industries such as Petroleum, Manufacturing, Water Treatment, and Packaging, which rely on automated processes to improve efficiencies, improve performance and meet demand.

Though many of the once-proprietary protocols are now openly published, it remains common for industrial control systems to operate on different networks than the plethora of end devices used in automation. Additionally, the complexity and scale of these systems has increased over time, necessitating opportunities to improve system efficiencies. These industry demands in combination with advances in communications, including the pervasive adoption of Ethernet and the development of robust, hardened wireless technologies, have enabled ProSoft Technology to fulfill a strong need in the industrial marketplace.

Today, ProSoft Technology remains privately held, with product lines including in-chassis communication modules for Rockwell Automation and Schneider Electric PLCs, stand-alone protocol gateways, and industrial grade wireless solutions. The company is headquartered in Bakersfield, California with offices in Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America.

Help me request[edit]

Hi there, you put a template but no question. What is it that you need help with? [CharlieEchoTango] 19:44, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Charlie Echo Tango, my question is this: I am a first time submitter but my page is not being accepted. None of the docs I have read are helping me identify the problem. Feedback?
The article reads like an advertisement, has no secondary sources, and may not be on a notable subject. Please see : WP:NOT, but more importantly WP:FIRST. In the meantime I suggest you move the article somewhere else on your userspace such as User:Alutov/Myarticle, so that it can be eventually be directly moved to the mainspace and keep all of it's history. Also, please put further questions at the bottom of this one, and sign your post using four tildes : ~~~~. Thank you - [CharlieEchoTango] 20:09, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
