References for Lady Eliza D'Oyly Burroughs

[edit]

Hi – thanks for your contributions to the article on Lady Eliza D'Oyly Burroughs! Note that you can use named references to avoid multiple copies of the same reference – you can see how that works in this edit in which I consolidated the citations. Also, inline external links like [doi:...|...] are discouraged (see WP:EL) – I converted those into citations. These are obviously just details – the main thing is that you improved the article :-) Joriki (talk) 13:08, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo AmyJo, Thanks for your work on this article. One more little thing to note: all-numeric dates (like 2020-05-07) should never be used except (a) in contexts where space is really tight like a table, or (b) as the "access-date", optionally, but new references should be consistent with those already in place. I'll change these. See MOS:DATE for the guidance on all this. Thanks. PamD 17:55, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think another editor had already introduced some of the erroneous all-numeric dates - although the article is on my watchlist I don't always spot every change. PamD 18:30, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another point is that we don't use people's forenames to refer to them - so Audrey Henshall should be called "Henshall" not "Audrey". I've left "Eliza" for that Lady Eliza article as I'm not sure whether we should call her "Lady Burroughs", "Burroughs", "Traill-Burroughs", "Lady Eliza" or "Eliza": I've looked at a few other articles where "Lady" has been included as first word of title, and they are inconsistent. But for Audrey, Caroline, and Margaret, there is no doubt: they should be referred to by surname except when we need to distinguish them from parent or spouse of same surname. There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey. Happy Editing! PamD 18:29, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I;ve gone through all four articles, changing given names to surnames and doing a few more tweaks. Also made incoming redirects, where absent, from the various possible versions of their names, and added to Simpson (name). I made a redirect from Wickham-Jones as she's the only holder of that name.
