I need help regarding the page about my friend Alex Scott-Samuel. He has asked me to have the page removed if possible. I should say that although I am new on this account, I had the account 'andydoc' which I am having difficulty accessing.

The page regarding Alex was posted and updated by people who are angry with the dismissal of Martin Rathfelder as the Director of the Socialist Health Association, see their page also similarly edited, and the political situation in the Labour Party.

Much of the material on Alex's page is either referenced by tabloid journalism, eg Jerusalem Post, Express, Jewish Chronicle, Private Eye; unreferenced "has a seat on the Labour Party regional board for the northwest", "He has described himself as a “Jewish origin agnostic”"; or is untrue "He submitted a motion of no confidence in her" (he as chair merely accepted a properly submitted motion). These are just examples of the many inaccuracies.

I attempted to delete the page, but when that wasn't an option I tried to delete most of the content and insert a proper biography but was prevented from doing so.

Alex has no wish to appear on Wikipedia at all failing which he would like his page to be accurate. Given that he has a visual impairment, and interracting with the internet takes time, he would rather not have to spend a lot of time dealing with keeping a page accurate. I don't see any edits, either in your edit history or the article's, where you attempted to delete the article(only administrators can delete articles) so whatever you were doing, you were not close to being successful(you can blank an article but this does not "delete" it). Unfortunately, it does not matter if Mr. Scott-Samuel wants an article here or not(many people probably do not want an article here); Wikipedia summarizes what appears in independent reliable sources with significant coverage. If he appears in such sources with significant coverage, and an independent editor notices the coverage and chooses to write about him here, he cannot prevent it.
If the sources say something different from what the article says, or the information is incorrect, you should point that out with a formal edit request on the article talk page(Talk:Alex Scott-Samuel). We do have a strict policy on how living people are written about. Unfortunately your word as to the accuracy of information is not sufficient; we cannot accept personal knowledge, as any of us can claim to know things about an article subject. If the sources say what the article says they say, and that information is incorrect, you need your own sources to support that idea. I did remove the first source offered as it was based on an opinion piece and not a news story. If you believe that removing the problematic information would leave little behind, or that Mr. Scott-Samuel does not meet the notability criteria for biographies written at WP:BIO(I'm not sure), you could start a formal Articles for Deletion discussion explaining why the article should be deleted based on Wikipedia policy(not just based on what Mr. Scott-Samuel or you might want).
I know this is a lot of information, and you are welcome to ask for further assistance at the Help Desk or Teahouse(an area for new users to ask questions). 331dot (talk) 14:02, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would add that per the conflict of interest policy you should not directly edit the article yourself, and you should continue to be open with the fact that you are a friend of Mr. Scott-Samuel should you make an edit request or start a deletion discussion. 331dot (talk) 14:03, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply. According to WP:Live Material should not be added to an article when the only sourcing is tabloid journalism. I pointed out numerous examples.

In addition it also states: "Biographies of living persons ("BLPs") must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives; the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment."

in WP:Attack "An attack page is a page, in any namespace, that exists primarily to disparage or threaten its subject"

Please consider deleting the page as it was put up by someone who has posted negative and defamatory, possibly antisemitic content (due to the use of the Nazi reference as Alex is himself Jewish).

Sorry I am posting brief requests but my friend is very distressed and I am very busy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andydoc1 (talkcontribs) 14:25, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I moved your message here, please keep further replies here, I am watching this page. I am not certain that the sources you describe are "tabloids"; as I indicated I did remove one source that was just an opinion piece(but that does not impugn the entire publication), I have not examined the others in detail yet. If you have concerns that sources are not reliable, you can bring them up at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard.
I cannot delete the article outside of established processes; the one that comes closest is the claim that it is an attack page, which is a speedy deletion criteria, but I do not feel that the article meets that definition. (you can try tagging it with that criteria and see if another administrator agrees, but I don't think they will) I've said what you can do to start a deletion discussion. My time is also limited and I must step away from my computer shortly. 331dot (talk) 14:35, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would further add that if Mr. Scott-Samuel is able to use email, he may follow the procedure at WP:LIBEL(click that link). 331dot (talk) 14:48, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Moops. I noticed that you recently removed content from Alex Scott-Samuel without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.
