KAL 007 image

After viewing a post in the article's Talk page, I found myself wondering; is the image meant to depict the 747 on fire, or is it (my first impression) a glare effect from a rising sun behind the airplane?AniRaptor2001 (talk) 16:03, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Your first impression is almost dead on :) (I imagined it to be sunset) I don't usually keep up with talk pages for articles my images are on (there are too many and time can be hard to come by) but I'm planning on updating the image with my new 747 model. Do you think it'd be better to show it at night? Anynobody(?) 22:10, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Well, let's see: at UMT+10, 007 would've breached restricted airspace at almost 2 in the morning, so the middle of the night. The attack occurred at around 18:30 UMT, which would be 4:30 in the morning over Sakhalin. Either way, it would probably be pitch black up there. What sort of textures do you use for your models? I used to do texture art for Flight Simulator jets, and I'd love to help out if you need.AniRaptor2001 (talk) 00:37, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry for the delay and meant to reply to you last evening but got sidetracked with an unrelated project.
Lol, I know what time it happened but I've received concerns about my night images being too dark. (I personally think images of aviation accidents at night should be somewhat vague, especially when darkness was the reason for what happened.)
I'd be more than happy for help, making textures is fun, yet very time consuming so if you have textures for aircraft incidents I haven't done they'd be especially welcome :) As to format; all start out as paint shop psp files and are usually exported as targas, but occasionally also tiffs and pngs. No worries! I think night images can be fine, just so long as you can tell that the window lights and logo lights are on, something like this? Just let me know what your next project is and I'll throw something together AniRaptor2001 (talk) 01:50, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Nice BA/A320 textures, especially the cabin and flightdeck :) I haven't played Flight Simulator since 2000, do the models include cabin interiors now?
Anyway, I've been doing studies on a fancy image for Air France Flight 8969. The three ideas I think most promising involve very close shots of either the flight deck, forward or aft doors during the raid. I don't plan on doing detailed individuals so only GIGN commandos would be clearly depicted, anyone on the flightdeck would either appear in silhouette or be concealed behind shiny areas of glass. I already have an A300 model, am working on the air stairs and GIGNs. Do you think you can do the plane's textures? Anynobody(?) 19:32, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Sure thing, do you have a template to work over? AniRaptor2001 (talk) 05:20, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
I'd estimate this as being 40% complete
Thanks :) but I figured you got busy doing other stuff after the last message so I went ahead and did the aircraft textures myself. Here's my current progress, do you have any good airport ground textures? Anynobody(?) 21:06, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
No probs! A couple of things; the shadows look a bit too dark, I don't know if that's a problem with textures or the lighting on the model itself. Also, that dark patch above the wing... was it meant to be the underwing shadow or is something else going on there?AniRaptor2001 (talk) 21:25, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Lol this is not even close to being done, it's more like a diagram :D I still have to do the flightdeck, second assault team (the rest of the first too), the airstairs, background, tarmac, lights, and reflection/bump/specular versions of the textures I've done so far. (Plus the perspective is just the last camera view, I'm thinking of moving the camera back and using a larger focal length setting for the actual illustration.) Map request

Would you mind doing a seat map for a Luxair flight (Luxair Flight 9642) that crashed in 2002? The map is on page 25/32 of this document: http://web.archive.org/web/20040407234204/www.luxair.lu/pdf/Preliminairesansanx1.pdf WhisperToMe (talk) 04:51, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

You bet, I should have something in a day or two. :) Anynobody(?) 21:06, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Here you go :) The web archive link didn't work, but I was able to get the report straight from www.gouvernement.lu Anynobody(?) 00:46, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
