How about retargeting to Dhyana_in_Buddhism#The_arūpa_āyatanas? Anythingyouwant (talk) 03:04, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

Other Sanskrit Hindu & Jain usage (as now linked in four articles) predates Buddhism by up to tens thousands years (and was copied into later Dharmas) so would be a definite wrong redirect--dchmelik☀️🦉🐝🐍(talk|contrib) 06:23, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
dchmelik, I also wrote: “Retarget to Dhyana in Buddhism#The arūpa āyatanas. If the word ‘arupa’ has an earlier history that’s notable, then that info can be included in this proposed target article, perhaps as a note.” Anythingyouwant (talk) 06:28, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes; the thing is Hindu & Jain subjects--predating Buddhism--aren't best described in Buddhism articles, so the current redirect is best... no one would redirect Bible to Bible#Christian_Bible and expect people wanting to read about the Jewish Bible read it in context of a Christian article. Four of the five WP philosophical usages of 'arupa' predate Buddhism (its arupa only described in one concept on WP) and the rest seem to be as a personal name.--dchmelik☀️🦉🐝🐍(talk|contrib) 06:34, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you’ll write an article about arupa. Anythingyouwant (talk) 06:39, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I did decades ago but it was deleted recently when since at least mid-2010s more editors went on a sprees of pushing empiricist materialist/dualist science, and deleting other content/articles, so I don't feel like recreating it--dchmelik☀️🦉🐝🐍(talk|contrib) 07:21, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there Anythingyouwant. Nice name! For reference, the AfD deletion discussion is here [1]. The Arupa article was one line long and the only source on the page was to Arūpaloka which is not the same thing and is mentioned in Buddhist cosmology. Although on wikipedia there are WP:NODEADLINES, the failure to provide any sources or proof of WP:SIGCOV in 14 years of the page hanging around, or at the AfD discussion rather proves that there is no significant coverage. I won't say anything about the redirect here though - I will keep that discussion for the RfD page. Thanks for your thoughts there, and I hope to see you around.
