Conflict of interest policy

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Aronnax1. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 03:29, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond

[edit]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 17:03, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hipal and Hipal/Ronz: I'm not paid to edit Wikipedia. I make no money from this. I'm more of an amateur hobbyist/historian. Over the years I have helped numerous organisation, such as the BBC, Oxford University Press, The Museum of Soho, etc. Not many people would know more than me on certain things. Not being allowed to share that knowledge seems perverse — especially on articles that lack a lot of information. There are very few articles or books about photographers like Zoltan Glass and to blacklist one of the main sources of information is irrational and twisted. If you have other sources that I can cite let me know. Likewise, if you think something is factually incorrect please inform me or correct it. How's is deleting it helping anyone.

Thanks for responding.
Judging by your response, I think it safe to assume you're the same person who has been doing this for a decade or so now, and you have a conflict of interest. Please correct me if I'm wrong. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 16:53, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hipal and Hipal/Ronz:I’ve had a look at the online guides. Wikipedia clearly says… “Museum curators, librarians, archivists, and similar are encouraged to help improve Wikipedia, or to share their information in the form of links to their resources.” More than happy to describe my position and area of expertise on my user page as recommended. Feel free to make any other recommendations. Hopefully, that will sort the matter.

Given your response, I think we should proceed with the assumptions you've been spamming the links for 10+ years and have a direct conflict of interest. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 00:19, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've started a discussion here to address the conflict of interest. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 01:07, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Since you are asking for recommendations, I think you should go ahead and describe your position and area of expertise as you have suggested, especially any relationship from WP:EXTERNALREL. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 20:27, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hipal and Hipal/Ronz: Where am I meant to write this here? Here?

Here would be good. --Hipal/Ronz (talk) 15:26, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
