Hello Artistcolony. As indicated in my edit summary on your recent draft article, publication of text on Wikipedia waives any claim of copyright. I have started a discussion on the matter at Wikipedia talk:Copyrights under the section entitled Claim of copyright in draft article. Please post your concerns, questions, and wishes there for further guidance. Kablammo (talk) 02:48, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to correct the above statement. Copyright in any material created by an editor in Wikipedia belongs to the creator, but adding that material to Wikipedia means that it is released under a license that allows it to be freely used by anyone. Please read Wikipedia:Copyrights for a fuller explanation. - Donald Albury 03:26, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As you have claimed a copyright on the material you added to Draft:John Thomas Andrew on behalf of the family of John Thomas Andrew, you need to be aware of the Wikipedia policy on conflict of interest, which places limitations and requirements on your editing of any article that is about someone or something with whom or which you have a relationship that creates a conflict of interest, or the appearance of a conflict of interest. Please read over that policy, and take appropriate action. - Donald Albury 04:03, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting me about my draft in progress Draft:John Thomas Andrew. I will remove that copyright information from my draft, and will review further Wikipedia's policies on copyrights and conflicts of interest. As I do not have a relationship to the artist, Jack Andrew, or his family, I should be OK on the conflict of interest aspect. I will be working on the draft a litle more in the next couple of weeks, and will be including cites as well. Artistscolony (talk) 21:46, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And now, if I may, I have another concern to raise. Wikipedia has a policy on usernames, which includes a section on usernames that represent a company, group, institution or product. Your username appears to represent a group or institution. If your username does indeed represent a group or institution, then you will have to change to a new username. If your username does not, in fact, represent some entity, then a statement on this page saying so should suffice. - Donald Albury 22:05, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for your assistance. My username does not represent any group, institution or entity--it is just a name I made up. Artistscolony (talk) 22:12, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK. - Donald Albury 22:29, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have two more questions: One, may one cite a source which is an obituary or memorial or is that considered a self-published source? And two, is it necessary when entering someone's date of death to cite the governmental death records? Thanks again for your assistance. Artistscolony (talk) 22:45, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources, Wikipedia:Verifiability#Self-published sources (online and paper) Published obituaries are fine for verifying date of death. - Donald Albury 01:16, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
