Transcripts of maiden speeches don't belong in wikipedia articles in general. See the article's talk page comments for another user's view plus it had already been edited out and you re-added it. While being bold is fine, you might want to discuss undoing other people's reversions on the article's talk page.

There is some guidance on writing biographies at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) which you might find useful. Not sure how close you are to the subject, but you might like also to note some of the comments at Wikipedia:Autobiography as it deals with some issues of conflict of interest.

Thanks for your quick response. I strongly recommend you join Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian politics. Wikiprojects are a good way to hook up with editors interested in the same topics (see the project talk page). As an editor interested in Australian topics you might also be interested in the Australian Wikipedians' noticeboard which can be found through the shortcut WP:AWNB. My two cents is certianly patronage of organisations is not encyclopaedic, committee work may be ... - but I don't hold that view strongly and if you are adding it to each MP's article for a given area it gives the information a different character - good topic to raise on the talk page of the Australia politics wikiproject and get some other views.

I suggest looking around to find some good articles which you can use as a model. Don Dunstan has been assessed as a featured article. Onviously the articles on Rudd and Howard have had a bit of attention, I can only think of bad back bencher examples - eg Gary Nairn seems to me to be not meeting our WP:NPOV aspirations.

My bad - I had the wrong diff at number 3!!! What might have happened is you overwrote the amendments Utcursch made between 21:09 and 21:18 when you ceased editing at 20:51 and came back an hour later at 21:53. The history of the editing of an article is visible through the history tab or in this case http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ken_Ticehurst&action=history . I fully appreciate you are editing in good faith. I saw your post at the Australian Politics noticeboard! It takes a little while to get the hang of wikipedia - its not hard to edit but collaborative editing has its idiosyncrasies. Hi. Re the section "Major political achievements", the addition read like promotional material. Remember that all additions should have reliable sources (see WP:RS), and that it has to be from a neutral point of view (see WP:NPOV). It is always difficult to write about more minor political figures, but have a look through some of the more extensive pages on Australian politicians to get an idea of the structure and sort of material that is added.
