Brief introduction

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! The "welcome mat" above contains all kinds of links that may be useful to you as you learn your way around the place, including where to go if you need help learning your way around the place. :) As you see, we have a "help desk" especially for new contributors at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, which is typically manned around the clock by volunteers. You can even get a volunteer to answer questions at your own talk page by typing your question here with {{helpme}} (curly brackets and all) above or below it. Somebody will come to answer.

The links above will give you a fuller picture, but as a short introduction, you might want to take a glance at Wikipedia:Five pillars. One of the challenges particularly for experienced writers in acclimating is striving for neutrality. As a tertiary source, we reflect the opinions others have about subjects (ideally in proportion to their prevalence), but such opinions need citations to verify their origin. As encyclopedists, we try to be as transparent as possible. Sadly, Wikipedia's tone guidelines do take some of the zest out of our articles, but we do the best we can under the limitations.

Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy contributing. Most experienced Wikipedians that you encounter will be happy to talk to you to help you acclimate, either at article's talk pages or their own (every user has one, just like you do; you can reach mine by following the "talk" link after my username). Sometimes people get involved enough in their work that they may seem a bit brusque, but generally I've found other users to be friendly and willing to help. Oh, and caveat on the article talk pages: if an article is not heavily edited, its talk page may not be watched. In that case, any questions you leave there may not be answered for quite some time.
