Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: it may be promotional even if that is not your intention. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 15:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ukexpat
Well I've had friendlier welcomes. Nevertheless, to allay your fears, choosing such a username was a conscious decision. As an employee of the digital marketing team at Ayr College, I wish to ensure all information included to Wikipedia is both accurate and valid. The information currently displayed shows the college in a very poor light and out-dated.
Ayr College UK username was chosen - after several attempts due to similarities to previously selected usernames I might add – to add validity to any information or data I will :update/add over the coming weeks.

Sorry that you feel it was unfriendly - that was not the intention obviously. I am afraid that if you use this username to make edits related to your employer or its activities, you will fall foul of the username rules, as it will be deemed to be promotional, and your username will almost certainly be blocked from editing. Accuracy and validity of edits are verified by reliable sources, not by the identity of the editor who makes them - we have no easy way to verify that editors are who they claim to be. So I would encourage you to change your user name - actually because you have so few edits, the best thing to do would be to abandon this user account and create a new one. – ukexpat (talk) 17:07, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
