Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia

The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Pack for a Purpose, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.packforapurpose.org/docs/about-us.shtml.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Pack for a Purpose, you may be blocked from editing. —C.Fred (talk) 00:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. —C.Fred (talk) 00:15, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I was unaware I was advertising. I am an intern for the Pack for a Purpose non-profit and was told to create a page with the same information generally found on our website (Packforapurpose.org). I do not understand, are members of the non-profit not allowed to post pages about the non-profit itself? Thank youPack For A Purpose (talk) 00:48, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. —C.Fred (talk) 00:56, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Mostly correct. Members of any organization must proceed carefully when editing pages on their organization, although it's not an outright prohibition. Of course, the organization still must be a notable organization, which Pack for a Purpose did not appear to be; the article may not be blatant advertising, which I did not think the article was; and the article may not infringe on copyrights, even the organization's own. (There are procedures for donating text, but as a rule, any text an organization writes about itself is likely to be overly promotional or will need to be heavily edited anyway, so it's easier just to write fresh text.) —C.Fred (talk) 00:53, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

About attempting to create the article again

[edit]

In response to this message left at my talk page:

So if I rewrite the article from a non-biased POV (or get someone who isn't an intern or creator from outside the organization to) would I be able to try and post the Pack for a Purpose article once more? I would hate to spend all the time rewriting just to get blocked once again! — Preceding unsigned comment added by PackforaPurpose (talkcontribs) 01:10, 7 March 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Creating an inappropriate article in good faith won't get you blocked. My suggestion is, after the username change goes through, you create a draft of the article in your user space. The article won't be subject to deletion for failing to assert notability (though blatant spam and copyright infringement restrictions would still apply). Once the username change goes through, I'll give a suggested title for the page. —C.Fred (talk) 01:25, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Title would be User:BJGoodman/Pack for a Purpose. Remember that even though you've changed your username, that doesn't eliminate the underlying conflict of interest. —C.Fred (talk) 03:24, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Pack for a Purpose, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 19:20, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I agree with the deletion. One of the big problems is that the article is sourced only to Pack for a Purpose's website. It should pull in secondary sources: newspaper or magazine articles written about the organization. —C.Fred (talk) 19:43, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Suitecase-logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Suitecase-logo.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:08, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Suitecase-logo.gif

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Suitecase-logo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 04:13, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
