Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, BMicalMusic. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 06:59, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm Chocmilk03. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Chocmilk03 (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Please do not insert fringe or undue weight content into articles, as you did to Te Pāti Māori. An article should not give undue weight to any aspects of the subject but should strive to treat each aspect with a weight appropriate to its significance to the subject. Please use the article's talk page to discuss the material and its appropriate weight within the article. Thank you. PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 18:46, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did at List of New Zealand musicians, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. AntiDionysius (talk) 18:30, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- What sort of links are appropriate? Why can’t we send readers to an artists official page? BMicalMusic (talk) 20:08, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- Waiting for reply… BMicalMusic (talk) 17:36, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @BMicalMusic: Hi there, I'm not the original editor who sent you the message, but in general with articles like List of New Zealand musicians these should only include musicians who have a Wikipedia page already, or at bare minimum where a reliable secondary source is provided showing that they qualify for one. Otherwise the list would be too long and not useful for the reader. There's more guidance about this here: WP:LISTPEOPLE.
- In addition, external links should almost never be placed in the body of an article and there's guidance about this here too: WP:EXTERNAL. That page also includes guidance about when external links are appropriate and how to add them to an article.
- Appreciate there's a learning curve with Wikipedia, and let me know if you have any further questions or if I can help at all. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 20:25, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
