Philosopher as "scholar"
[edit]Hi, you made this change in wording, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It was removed for this reason before, but if you think its correct, then including a citation is the best way to guarantee the information stays in the article. If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or you can leave a message on the article discussion page at Talk:Philosopher. --Netoholic @ 20:55, 11 June 2014 (UTC) I was using the second definition from the Wiktionary which comes from the OED.
- "A specialist in a particular branch of study, especially the humanities"[1]
My reading of that definition would mean that it would be used in this type of circumstance.Bandana man95 (talk) 21:07, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- To clarify, you would need outside sources that describes a philosopher as "a scholar who specializes in philosophy". While your interpretation of the dictionary definition of "scholar" and how it applies may be right, on Wikipedia we go by what external sources say, not conduct original research by ourselves deciding if those labels apply. -- Netoholic @ 21:17, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- I just updated it to reflect the definition as supplied by Merriam-Webster.Bandana man95 (talk) 21:29, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Philosophy meme
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.
From what I've seen, your edits seem to be centered around breaking the "Wikipedia:Getting to Philosophy" meme. You should know that single-purpose accounts created to disrupt Wikipedia just to make a point are not tolerated. I've alerted administrators to watch over this, so my suggestion is that you not continue if this is in fact your goal. -- Netoholic @ 21:33, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
