Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. I've reverted some of your recent Mars-related edits because they fail wikipedia's guidelines for external links at WP:EL. In particular YouTube does not count as a reliable source; and secondly they seem to me to be spammy - of all the videos you might have linked to you chose one that is of marginal relevance and is presented by yourself. andy (talk) 11:21, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, Andy. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I took a look at the guidelines for external links, and yes you are right (obviously), that wikipedia discourages external links to websites that are associated with the person posting the link, and this makes sense. Of course, I only intended to provide interested wikipedia readers with a 3 min video that might help distil some of the most salient reasons for manned missions to Mars, colonization and potentially terraforming. Very likely many wiki users would appreciate the link, but I acknowledge that they can also run a search in Google or YouTube and potentially find the video that way. In the end, I guessed the external link would be soon reverted by another User if deemed inappropriate, and am happy you took the time to contact me directly to discuss it. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Mortality rate, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Plague (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 12:00, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you, DPL Bot. Fixed!

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
