Hello, I'm NoNAja. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Mark Lythgoe because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Hi Willondon, I'm so sorry for all the edits and thanks for all your input. As you can probably tell I have never done this before. Someone (i don't know who) had set up a wiki page for me (Mark Lythgoe) and a couple of friends, Hugh Montgomery (physician) and Kevin Fong from my university recommend I correct the all the information on the page. So I finally bit the bullet and had a go this eve. I'm so sorry that I have not been able to get the right tone. I'm a scientist and have tried to bring that rigour to the references etc. I'm so sorry that I have not be able to get it right. To be quite honest I'm exhausted as I have tried so many different versions for you. I have used the same words/language that Hugh and Kevin used in their published pages eg 'best known', as such, I thought this would be be acceptable. I have read their pages in depth, and I'm really lost, as I have followed their level of referencing and language. My aim was to correct all the previous mistakes and complete the page to the best of my knowledge. As I said I'm a little overwhelmed as this has not be a great experience. I know you will understand my position and in all honestly, my desire to provide the correct information in a style already published. I hope you can help and support me to complete the page in a similar fashion to Hugh and Kevin. Thank you Mark Bioimage (talk) 20:24, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for your response. It's unfortunate that this has not been a great experience for you; but that is not uncommon among new editors that have a different expectation of what Wikipedia aims to be, as opposed to the traditional community that is immersed in the myriad policies, guidelines and requirements that shape Wikipedia articles. Perhaps the best for us both is to attend to other things now, and re-visit the article tomorrow.
I can help by taking time to explain some of the pertinent principles that Wikipedia is built on. I will do that tomorrow, but to be going on with, if you plan to do anymore editing, you need to declare a conflict of interest by disclosing on your user page. If you wish to avoid that seeming rigmarole for now, a valid approach is to post at Talk:Mark Lythgoe to propose edits. That way, in the interest of avoiding biased changes to the article, the proposals can be reviewed by editors that do not have a vested interest in the topic of the article. Thanks again for your response, I will provide more guidance tomorrow, with explanation that hopefully makes Wikipedia more welcoming for your contributions.
