Manirangu

Manirangu (maNirangu) is a rāga in Carnatic music (musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is an audavashadava rāga (or owdava rāga, meaning pentatonic scale and hexatonic scale).It is It is a pentatonic in arohanam and hexatonic in avarohanam.It is janya rāga (derived scale)of kharaharipriya(22nd melakartha raga) and it does not have all the seven musical notes (swaras).


It is considered a very auspicious rāgam. It's arohanam is S R₂ M₁ P N₂ Ṡ and it's avarohanam is S N2 P M1 G2 R2 S. It is often confused with carnatic raga Madhyamavathi. Manirangu differs from Madhyamavathi by it's G2 swara in avarohana

Structure and Lakshana

Manirangu does not contain dhaivatam but contain gandharam in avarohanam. It is a pentatonic and hexatonic scale (audava-shadava rāgam in Carnatic music). Its ārohaṇa-avarohaṇa structure (ascending and descending scale) is as follows:

ārohaṇa : S R₂ M₁ P N₂ Ṡ[a] avarohaṇa : Ṡ N₂ P M₁ R₂ S[b]
