Manirangu
[edit]Manirangu (maNirangu) is a rāga in Carnatic music (musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is an audavashadava rāga (or owdava rāga, meaning pentatonic scale and hexatonic scale).It is It is a pentatonic in arohanam and hexatonic in avarohanam.It is janya rāga (derived scale)of kharaharipriya(22nd melakartha raga) and it does not have all the seven musical notes (swaras).
It is considered a very auspicious rāgam. It's arohanam is S R₂ M₁ P N₂ Ṡ and it's avarohanam is S N2 P M1 G2 R2 S. It is often confused with carnatic raga Madhyamavathi. Manirangu differs from Madhyamavathi by it's G2 swara in avarohana
Structure and Lakshana
[edit]Manirangu does not contain dhaivatam but contain gandharam in avarohanam. It is a pentatonic and hexatonic scale (audava-shadava rāgam in Carnatic music). Its ārohaṇa-avarohaṇa structure (ascending and descending scale) is as follows:
