Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Please accept my apology for using the company name CZECH-IN as my username. I fully understand my mistake in regard to breaking the Wikipedia username policy. Accordingly, I am prepared to change it into my personal name so that I can keep contribution to Wikipedia. The primary aim of my contributing to Wikipedia was to disseminate information about a company holding a strong market position in conference management services both in the Czech Republic and Europe. CZECH-IN s.r.o. has organized a number of important scientific congresses and conferences in many different European countries. It was not my intention to edit Wikipedia for purposes of publicity. My sentiment is that the tone of the text is neutral and factual and, as such, displays no sign of promotion. Also, the external link http://www.c-in.eu seems to be highly relevant to the edit, thus, I would like to kindly ask you to reconsider your position on my having violated the Wikipedia rules on spamming. Editing Wikipedia, I used only highly relevant sources such as the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), International Association of Professional Congress Organisers ( IAPCO), Czech online news portal http://aktualne.centrum.cz, renowned Czech newspaper Lidové noviny etc. and the cited sources are both national and international. Under a personal profile, I am prepared to make relevant contributions to Wikipedia. Using my expertise, it is my intention to contribute to the following topics: Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Conference_Organiser Destination Management Company (DMC) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destination_Management_Company Association Management Company (AMC) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_management_company Embracing all your points, I am ready to make any possible amendments to the edit so that the text fully complies with all Wikipedia rules. Please feel free to let me know of your thoughts and concerns over this matter. Yours faithfully, Premysl Pospisil

Bottom line, you're not going to be unblocked unless you pledge not to make conflict of interest edits about your company. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:03, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You say that the "primary aim" of your editing was "to disseminate information about a company holding a strong market position", and you also say "It was not my intention to edit Wikipedia for purposes of publicity". Can you explain what you see as the difference between editing "to disseminate information about a company" and editing to publicise that company? To me, it looks like another form of words saying the same thing. You also say that "the tone of the text is neutral and factual and, as such, displays no sign of promotion". That is true of much of what you wrote, but that is not the way it seems to me when I see such language as "Being a Core PCO enables the development of a long term relationship with an organization that is based on an in-depth knowledge of the organization's needs". If, as seems likely, you are sincere in seeing your editing as neutral and non-promotional, then it seems that you are unable to see the nature of your own editing, probably because in writing about your comapny you are too close to the subject to be able to stand back and see how your writing will look from the detached viewpoint of an uninvolved outsider. That is, in fact, one of the main reasons why Wikipedia's guideline on conflict of interest strongly discourges writing about a subject in which one has a close personal involvement. If you can comment on these issues it may help to assess your unblock request. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:07, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear JamesBWatson, first of all I would like to thank you for your reply. Herewith, I am sending you my reply to further open our discussion about my Wikipedia entry.
Your first comment was about the issue of main purpose of my entry. I do recognize that 'disseminating information' and 'publicizing' are, to some extent, interchangeable, but this does not seem to be in my opinion the case in my entry. I believe there is a distinction between 'disseminating information' in order to 'inform' and 'disseminating information' in order to 'promote/advertise'.
Moreover, if I wanted to make publicity, Wikipedia would not make the right platform. The potential target audience of CZECH-IN s.r.o. is not likely to consider Wikipedia an eligible source of information when looking for an event organizer. In order to publicize CZECH-IN s.r.o., I am quite sure there are more suitable media such as Prague Convention Bureau (PCB), International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) websites, etc.
Furthermore, if every 'disseminating information about a company' was considered as a promotion, there could be no Wikipedia edits about companies whatsoever.
As far as I can tell, there is no information about CZECH-IN s.r.o. included in the edit that would not be founded on a reliable impartial source of information. If you do not share my sentiment, I am ready to further discuss.
On the one hand a conflict of interest seems to be a relevant argument, but on the other hand I put a real effort into keeping a neutral tone of the whole edit. Had I failed to do so, it only afflicts very short excerpts of the text. Furthermore, it seems only logical that a historian writes about history, area he knows best. If I have a thorough knowledge of one particular field, I want to make my contributions to this very field. Even if I do not consider myself such an expert in the field of conference management, it is the area I have grown somehow conversant with.
Wikipedia is supposed to be an open encyclopedia and, to some extent, a moderated discussion. I therefore believe that possible shortcomings can be removed – in a mutual effort – so that everyone concerned could be happy.
I really want to assure you that I am ready to make amendments to the edit about CZECH-IN s.r.o. so that it complies with the given criteria – my objective from the very beginning. I would also welcome the opportunity to contribute to Wikipedia articles on convention industry. CZECH-IN (talk) 13:01, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I would like to offer this solution - change the article, make it shorter, to fulfill your demands.
The very first paragraph of my article is positively neutral and matter-of-fact. Every detail is supported by a relevant citation. The article is an entirely factual account of the subject, not open to any interpretation.
The second part (Business activity) only contains a matter-of-fact account of C-IN’s business activities – all of which are corroborated by a reliable source.
In addition, I put forward a suggestion that the list of services the company provides should be left out and only the last paragraph on C-IN’s membership supported by a reference citation is kept.
Such adjustments to the edit leaves no room for promotion and there could be no 'appearance of a conflict of interest' whatsoever. COI would make an invalid argument as the edit would contain only factual and neutral statements corroborated by relevant sources. CZECH-IN (talk) 14:28, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just to avoid any misunderstand, this the offered version of our article, where we believe, that the COI issue is no longer questionable, because of valid, neutral and non promotional information included only.

I am writing because I would like to ask whether it would be possible to ublock my IP address so I am allowed to keep contributing about the meeting industry. First of all, I would like to assure you that I am prepared to change the account name and start using my personal name. I have always been open to dialogue and have been trying to hold a debate over your comments. I have presented my arguments and a possible solution, an amended article on the company, compliant with your requirements. Can you tell me whether you agree to the amended text and if not what amendments would make it possible to have it published.

Decline reason:

It is perfectly clear from what you have written that your purpose is still "to disseminate information" about your company. You have clearly failed to take in the essential points of Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy and the policy on promotion. Wikipedia does not exist as a free service for businesses that wish to "disseminate information" about themselves.
