Rana el Kaliouby
[edit]Hi Rula! It's Silas in Cambridge, Rana and I did our PhDs in the same office :) Sorry to see you got reverted when you tried to improve her article. I think the editors who reverted you didn't know who you are and also didn't know you had permission to use that picture (Wikipedia is very cautious about copyright). Also one of the edits was reverted by a robot, the robot is designed to automatically detect "vandalism" but sometimes it can false-positive. On its revert it added a link to report false positives, which we should certainly do in this case because what you are doing is most definitely not vandalism (even if some other human editors think you missed a rule in Wikipedia's policy, it still shouldn't count as "vandalism" for that robot which is designed to detect mindless messing-up of articles so it definitely false-positive'd on your edit). Sorry I have to rush now, but just wanted to let you know I'm here, I'm watching, and I'll help later if others don't help first :) Meanwhile, would you be able to look into the possibility of getting a nice picture of Rana which you and she can definitively give Wikipedia permission to use under its preferred free license, and upload that to Commons along with clear licensing information? That should stop everyone worrying about the copyright on the image use :) Thanks. Silas S. Brown (email, talk) 09:10, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Request reason:
please note that we have created a page on a public profile of a CEO - Hazem Metwally, CEO of Etisalat - the leading telecom operator in Egypt
Decline reason:
I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
- the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
- the block is no longer necessary because you
- understand what you have been blocked for,
- will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
- will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yamla (talk) 10:55, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Please explain the reason for this block
[edit]- @MER-C: I don't understand the reason for this block, so I'm not sure how Rula is supposed to understand it. As I see it, Rula identified herself on the Rana el Kaliouby talk page in January 2020, I replied there with a reminder about Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, secondary sources and licensing (for the image), I also said hello on this talk page in case she wasn't reading that one. Perhaps I should have mentioned other policies, but anyway Rula complied with what I'd said and has not edited the article at all since last year. In that time, I have reviewed the article and I assume other editors have done so too. Why is it suddenly necessary now to block Rula indefinitely and tag the Rana El-Kaliouby page as spam when the activity was last year and the page has been reviewed since? Has Rula done something else of which I am not aware? Please can we assume good faith: if she only wanted to help her sister, she didn't realise she'd broken policy, and she stopped, why exactly is a block needed now? Thanks. Silas S. - They're blocked for suspected undeclared paid editing and covert advertising on Draft:Hazem Metwally. UPE on one page makes all similar pages suspect. I'd want to know how File:Hazem Metwally .png is this editor's own work. MER-C 19:02, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
