Speedy Delete

A tag has been placed on Lauren Barlow, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company or website, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable. The Lauren Barlow article should have been kept. I would have given the {{hangon}} had it not been too late. Although I can no longer see the article I tagged it and remember it. It was an article with almost no content, no context, no assertion of notability—not even close to meeting the most minimal requirements of Wikipedia:Stub. As such it took literally about the same time to create as it did for me to properly tag it with {{db-empty}}/{{db-band}}/{{db-bio}}. What purpose does such a sub-stub serve? I submit that it is simply a placeholder for content not provided, i.e., no purpose at all. Here's a thought: if the subject is notable as you claim, spend fifteen minutes writing 3 informative paragraphs on her from a googled source, cite that source (adding a category and a stub tag would be nice too); voilà, actual content that doesn't meet the criteria for speedy deletion.--Fuhghettaboutit 22:49, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from adding that unsourced image from the article. 1)There already is a free use image there, and you should not replace a free use image with a fair use image. 2) You need to update the fair use image tag or it will be deleted shortly. If you want this article to stay on Wikipedia, as well as the ones on the individual Barlow Girls, you need to add some content to them other than "this person is a member of this band." You need to assert why there needs to be a separate article for each Barlow sister. There doesn't seem to be much beyond their involvement in BarlowGirl (which is of course EXTREMELY notable). You shouldn't keep re-adding these articles. You also need to write in your own words and stop cut and paste from other websites. Cut and paste doesn't work here for it is a copyright violation.

I wonder if the admins follow the correct procedure when they speedy deleted the articles, since both you and I contributed to the individual Barlow sisters articles. I thought that a second person editing the article makes it ineligible for speedy deletion and it must be deleted through the longer AfD procedure. I also thought that I added their articles to WikiProject CCM, which should prevent their speedy deletion too. I am puzzled on this one, and I have done quite a bit in wikipedia (easily enough to be considered to be an administrator). Royalbroil^{Talk Contrib} 03:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barlow articles

You should take some time to read the "links for newcomers" listed at the top of your talk page. You cannot simply cut and paste material from other websites. I noticed on Alyssa Barlow you attempted to rewrite the material from this website. A giveaway was your leaving a passage in the first-person ("The doctors told her that she would never walk normally again and that I would eventually be in a wheelchair."). You should also read Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Copyrights. Try writing the article in your own words, and provide a reliable source for where you obtained the information. While it is my habit to respond on my talk page, as you are new and as I started the discussion here, I will repeat my response to your comment on my talk page here as well. On my talk page, I responded to you with: "Simply "changing the writing" is not sufficient. Taking someone else's words and recasting them as your own, without citation, can be plagerism. Even if "almost all" of it is your creation, whatever is left that is not your work can also be plagerism. It also does not seem that you've written the article with a neutral point of view. - On further re-reading of your revisions, I have removed them because they do not comply with with WP:VERIFY, WP:Reliable sources, WP:Neutral point of view, and possibly WP:No original research and WP:Biographies of living persons.
