Information icon Hello, I'm Danners430. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, British Rail Class 04, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Danners430 (talk) 07:41, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for replying, With regard to the 04, i can quote a reliable source for the 04 needing radiator repairs :- https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2023/03/yorkshire-based-class-04-locomotive-up-for-sale.html . Without trying to sound rude,i have been volunteering at Mangapps for a few years now and have seen the loco as well. Thank you. Cooper0694 (talk) 17:49, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Being a volunteer and having seen something falls under WP:OR, so isn’t sufficient to alter it add content on Wikipedia. The RailAdvent article would be the right avenue however. Danners430 (talk) 06:32, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Danners430. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, British Rail Class 31, but you didn't provide a reliable source. Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at British Rail Class 31, you may be blocked from editing. An image on Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source - it is considered WP:UGC. If there is a magazine or news article somewhere stating the loco has been repainted, then feel free to add this info to the article. Danners430 (talk) 10:39, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again, but I know from personal experience as I was involved in the prep and repainting. I have not had
this trouble with editing the class 31 page before, as when 31s 105+233 arrived at Mangapps, I was the one who updated the 31 page with the info that they had arrived, colour etc. I also updated the page regarding 31430 "Sister Dora" moving to the Spa Valley from Mangapps too. I understand from your page that you volunteer at the Strathspey Railway, surely if you added info to the page or a photo, couldn't someone ask you to provide a reliable of information and say that being a volunteer falls under "original research"? Thank you Cooper0694 (talk) 11:20, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Correct - if I added information to the Strathspey Railway page that was borne from my own experience, it would fall under WP:OR. This is why I declare this conflict of interest on my user page, and avoid making edits to the SR page unless I have reliable sources to back them up. For example - I make use of the quarterly newsletter published by the railway, or magazine articles. But I cannot use my own experiences or knowledge - and I don't. The same goes for Mangapps - just because "you know" something to be correct, doesn't make it reliable - this is why WP:OR exists. Danners430 (talk) 11:32, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

With due respect,Trackside Magazine has an article in it this month, showing Mangapps and 11103 (D2203) and saying about the repairs.I quoted this source in the edit.Regards. Cooper0694 (talk) 21:20, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The source belongs in the article, not hidden away in an edit summary. Danners430 (talk) 10:09, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fine explain this to me,I quoted the article from heritage rly magazine regarding 31105 as a source. So why are you making it difficult When I've quoted the source this time.Wikipedia is supposed to be for reliable info as you claim, people will turn up expecting see these things running.I'am quoting relevent info,so what is the problem? Cooper0694 (talk) 09:41, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not up to those readers to find sources - they shouldn't be expected to search for them in the page history, as not everyone knows it exists. Sources should be in-line citations (where possible) or references at the bottom of the page. Danners430 (talk) 09:56, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
