Staple Hill railway station[edit]

Re this edit - you're quite right in that the coordinates were wrong; and I believe that your corrected values are right. Also, I've fixed the grid ref based on a 1967 map of the area, which shows the station as a white circle (ie a closed station). However, your fix, whilst correct, has an error in the edit summary: "the station is at the East end of the tunnel" should have read "the station is at the West end of the tunnel". I know of no way to fix this. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:17, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, but can't find a way to change the comment... thanks for checking and updating the grid ref. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Craig.francis (talkcontribs) 17:57, 7 September 2010
No problem... once you've clicked on "Save page", the edit summary is pretty much permanent. It can be amended, but not by you or I: it's a process restricted to administrators, who may only amend edit summaries in exceptional circumstances, see Wikipedia:Revision deletion. They certainly wouldn't do it for a simple west/east mixup. --Redrose64 (talk) 18:49, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
At the time that I wrote the above, I wasn't an administrator. Nowadays, I am: and I now know that admins cannot amend an edit summary. All that can be done is to erase it completely - or if it has been erased, they can restore it again to exactly what it had been before erasure. No modification is possible. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:01, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About talk pages[edit]

Just a note to remind you (or let you know if you didn't know), that when you post a message on a talk page it is useful that you sign your message. This allows editors to know who made what comment. There are bots who do place signatures after messages, but they don't always detect unsigned messages. To alleviate any confusion when you post a message, I recommend that you place ~~~~ after your messages on talk pages. This will be replaced when you make the edit with your username and the time you posted your comment. It will also allow you to {{ping}} other users, which will give the user a notification that you have replied to them.

If you want more information on how to sign posts, there is a guide which can be found at Wikipedia:Signatures#How to sign your posts. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 18:49, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
