Exploring (Learning for Life)
[edit]Recent changes to names and titles must be sourced. Exploring has existed since the 1940s, and it has often been commonly referred to as Explorer Scouts--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 04:37, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
It is not a recent change. "In 1935, senior Scouts were called Explorers for the first time" - from the Exploring website.[1] Even if Explorers were called "Explorer Scouts" casually by people after that, Exploring split from traditional BSA in 1998 and has definitely not referred to participants as "Explorer Scouts" in that time. It is an important distinction to make considering the Exploring program is part of the Learning for Life organization and has been since 1998. Exploring has no relation to Scouting other than Learning for Life being an affiliate to the BSA so the name of the program and its participants should be clear.Ctlemon83 (talk) 04:50, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- Well affiliation is fairly important; however, some of us are old enough to remember when Exploring was much more closely linked to Scouting (Sea Scouts use to be part of Exploring before Venturing was set up). Note the articles are suppose to cover history as well as current status --Erp (talk) 05:04, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
I agree that the history is important. The reason I edited the content was because it said that "participants are known as Explorers or sometimes Explorer Scouts" which implies that it is still acceptable to refer to them as "Explorer Scouts". I am also old enough to remember when Exploring was linked to Scouting as I was an Explorer before it was moved to Learning for Life.Ctlemon83 (talk) 05:09, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
