How were they not constructive

[edit]

How is it not constructive all I did was change the county because it was incorrect?! Cw.456788 (talk) 19:43, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You changed the county to an incorrect name. See WP:DERRY. There has never been a County Derry in Northern Ireland, only County Londonderry. County Derry is a purely colloquial name used by some people who don't like the actual name, and carries no official weight. Plus you broke the infobox, map etc with the edits. I’m not good at editing

[edit]

Sorry but you are obviously from somewhere outside of Ireland possibly the uk because before the England took over Ireland hundreds of years ago it was always called Derry and then when the English took Northern Ireland they changed it to Londonderry and ONLY people in the uk call it LONDONDERRY everyone from Ireland calls it Derry so you obviously know nothing about the troubles In Northern Ireland Cw.456788 (talk) 21:24, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1) Well you've made a grossly incorrect assumption there on me, and anyway Wikipedia policy is to comment on edits, not editors.
2) On the name actually no, that's an oddly common misconception (likely stemming from a deliberate misunderstanding at some point in the past by someone), not sure where it came from. Before it was called County Londonderry it was called County Coleraine. Then the London Livery Companies managed to get it renamed from County Coleraine to County Londonderry during the Plantation of Ulster, while also incorporating some small parts of Counties Antrim, Donegal and Tyrone. It wasn't called County Derry previously, that's a myth. You can check this out in the appropriate articles and history books. Additionally what people in Ireland (the country i.e. the Republic of Ireland) call it is irrelevant because it's part of the United Kingdom and they get to name it. Some people don't like the name, but that's another matter and doesn't change the history. It's a bit like saying that we should rename Ireland (a.k.a. Republic of Ireland) "down south" because that's what everyone in Northern Ireland calls it.
Also note that this is Wikipedia policy per WP:DERRY. Derry for the city and Londonderry for the county. Canterbury Tail talk 21:53, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. You can just edit a section by clicking the edit button beside the header, such as to the right of the "I'm not good at editing" above. Instead of New Section each time. Canterbury Tail talk 22:00, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
