Richthofen's 63rd victory

[edit]

I reverted your edit on this one almost as a relex action - altering dates (often by just a few days) is a common trick of those dear people who actually WANT Wikipedia to be wrong. I suspect in this case however that your edit was made in in good faith - if you have a good reference for November rather than September then by all means let us have it! Richthofen had of course suffered quite a serious head wound in July 1917 - he returned to duty against doctor's orders after only three weeks, but (this is speculation, but not uninformed) he seems not to have flown much during the winter of 1917/18. So any real evidence about this period is of particular interest. --Soundofmusicals (talk) 03:47, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

not sure how this user talk works.... I am a novice with wiki - however this is the evidence to prove it was 30/11/17 and not 30/9/17 as previously detailed

"How this user talk works" would normally mean that the question was raised on the talk page for the article concerned rather than a personal talk page. I originally brought it up here because I deduced that you were new, and wanted to explain to you rather than the hoi polloi why I changed your edit back again (or "reverted" it, as they insist on saying round here). I have since done a bit of research and have come to some interesting conclusions, which you can see at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_victories_of_Baron_von_Richthofen. Well spotted anyway - and have fun editing Wikipedia! --Soundofmusicals (talk) 14:14, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay - thanks for the info. I have checked out the talk page on R. and can see your revisions. I had not spotted the error for number 62. This all came to light whilst researching a piece on R. for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission newsletter. I am a trustee of the Western Front Association (www.westernfrontassociation.com) a UK registered charity, and we contribute to the CWGC's monthly electronic newsletter. You may wish to have a look at signing up for the newsletter via www.cwgc.org

Glad that I was able to correct this on the wiki page. Thanks for the help with this - like you have spotted, I'm new to this editing lark!

Cheers

Association football during World War I

[edit]

Hi David, please do not add links to your own website/articles (westernfrontassociation.com on Larrett Roebuck, for example), especially not if you delete other suitable references in the process. GiantSnowman 09:13, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Not sure if this is going to work, as I am unclear how to send a message back to you.

OK - I understand what you are saying that this looks like self promotion, but the fact that Larrett was the first English League footballer killed was broken for the first time on the Western Front Association web site, and WSC picked this up subsequently. I therefore suggest, with respect, that the PRIMARY source for this fact is the WFA web site, not the many other sites that have subsequently picked the story up and paraphrased it. The article on the WFA web site is the fullest version of the story that is in the public domain and I would suggest therefore that this should be the page that is cited as the source here.

(As a matter of detail the WFA web site is not "my" web site in that sense. I am a trustee of the organisation, but only one of many. I would also add that the information on Larrett would not have come into the public domain without my research on the subject)

I am happy to discuss this with you. You may email me if you wish on davidj@tattersfield.net

Best wishes

The Cenotaph

[edit]

Hi, I've re-done your edit on The Cenotaph as I think it was promotional, and gave undue prominence to the Association; "the UK's leading First World War membership organisation". I note that you are a trustee of the association, and that it is the major focus of your efforts. Can I ask that you have a read of this, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. As a trustee, you have a conflict - this needs to be declared, and the COI editing process followed for articles to which you have a connection. Regards.
