Table citations

[edit]

Your "carbon footprint" data is using the same citation for all the cells of the table. If that's the case, better to use a single citation for the entire table (in the caption). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:08, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks WikiDan61. The URLs are actually all different and they refer to different data points within (sometimes) a single original document. I do use <ref> name= when URL is the same.

The difference is too small to note: they link to the same tables, only with different data highlighted. Using multiple citations that link to the same table in a document (albeit highlighting different cells within the table) is excessive and makes the document harder to maintain. Noted. Makes sense. Will be avoiding many references to a single document.

Carbon footprints

Noticed your recent edit on Intel, that is a neat effort to add that information. Do you need help divvying up the work or is there a WikiProject responsible that you're helping? - Indefensible (talk) 21:57, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot Indefensible. Yes, we are considering to create a WikiProject on climate data and goals. Goals look particularly interesting and they seem to be going viral. We can use a helping hand here. Will give you a shout. Thanks!ESGfan (talk) 11:37, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, will keep an eye out for any updates. - Indefensible (talk) 00:28, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

archive-url

[edit]

The only type of URL that should be here is a web archive provider such as archive.org - they are listed at WP:WEBARCHIVE. What will happen is a bot will come along later and delete the archive-url because it is not a recognized web archive provider. In this case, what you have is an internal website archive URL. Those are considered primary URLs and belong in the url field. Example. I'm, letting you know as I don't want to see your work all undone by a bot in the future. If you want to keep both the original phillips66.com URL and the analytics.exerica.com create two citations one for each. Or as in the example, make the analytics.exerica.com the primary URL and delete the other one. -- GreenC 18:56, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A third option is something like this:
"Chevron Corp's Sustainability Report for 2020Q4" (PDF). Alt URL
ie.:
{{Cite web |title=Chevron Corp's Sustainability Report for 2020Q4 |url=https://www.chevron.com/-/media/shared-media/documents/chevron-sustainability-report-2020.pdf }} [https://analytics.exerica.com/App/Name/Chevron%20Corp/Total%20CO2e%20Emissions%20-%20Market-Based%20Scope%201%20%2b%20Scope%202/2020Q4/12/2020Q4 Alt URL] GreenC 19:07, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a ton for this GreenC. This is duly noted. The plan is to update the data for FY2021 anyway so there will be opportunity to update the entire set. ESGfan (talk) 11:26, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to help out and convert all to the "Alt URL" form (see AT&T). If you want to further convert the "Alt URL" into its own {{cite web}} that is an option, but I think the Alt URL and primary URL are close enough in subject keeping them tied works alright; the main downside there is no metadata: |work=, |title= etc.. for the analytics.exerica.com .. but this is a step forward. -- GreenC 03:47, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
