gotcha, this is the first time i've gone through the deletion process, didn't know how to add coments, ended up deleting whole thing

Friendly advice

[edit]

Perhaps before getting uppity with people for reverting anonymous edits to your own page, it would help if you explained the situation a bit better. There is enough real vandalism going on around here without you adding your own false alarms. People who are reverting the IP address are doing so in good faith and with good reason. Now you have explained it, all is good, yes? So why didn't you log in and explain it better in the first place? Anyway, let's all go about our business and get on with it, eh? – B.hoteptalk19:23, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

don't know where this is coming from, thought everything was resolved with the parties involved. Are you like a supervising admin? If not, no offense, but this isn't friendly advice. Calling me uppity, then asking me why I didn't do something in the first place, then asking me to go out my business when it is you who has interrupted it, isn't friendly or advice.
Here's some real advice, friendly or not: If a situation has been resolved amicably between all parties, don't try to "have the last word" by interjecting when you weren't a part of the original discussions or situation.
I don't have an obligation to "explain it better" nor do I have an obligation to explain it now. Like I said, it was resolved before your comment here. Hopefully it is still resolved, despite your attempt to keep the fire going. (that means we don't talk to each other again)Eganjt (talk) 19:31, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have an obligation as an administrator to make sure you calling people jerks and going off at people through nobody's fault but your own doesn't go unnoticed. Take my advice as you will. – B.hoteptalk19:34, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Watch out for "bad cop". Looks like we failed to take each other's "advice". I guess I have to lay it all out again. Since you've taken such an interest, maybe'll you read it.
I apologized to the people I may have offended because I realize now that they do care somewhat about me, and not just reverting vandalism. We were able to have what I consider a civil discussion (sorry if we weren't sipping tea at the time) and move on. I explained my feelings of frustration, and they explained their feelings of wanting to better wikipedia. This was not a cut and dry, black/white issue. I was completely within policy to do what I did in editing the user page. I even attempted to leave some sort of edit summary, even if it was considered "bullying". Civility aside, calling someone a jerk shouldn't break any bones. It certainly wouldn't have upset me as much to have been called a jerk, as it did to threaten to contact my ISP because of repeated vandalism (which wasn't vandalism at all).
Put yourself in my shoes. I don't want to sign in, and I don't have to unless I'm creating an article. That's what's laid out in the guidelines. In fact, I had to sign in to create the user page for that IP address, as it had none and I could not do so otherwise. Now I decided that my user page for Eganjt was a bit cynical (think you would've agreed) and I decided to go a little less serious route and changed it to a one-liner. Before I could even read it, it was reverted by a user, Midnightcomet. I commented, maybe rudely, that it was indeed my user page and to please not revert it. If I was rude, it was simply because the revert happened immediately, and I KNOW you cannot make a judgement whether or not it is vandalism in the timeframe it takes to simply load the page. I assumed it was a bot that did it, because bots have reverted other legitimate edits of mine. I explained in that instance that maybe they should read the edits first, and the admin agreed and apologized for reverting my legitimate edit, explaining that he was using a bot and didn't pay too much attention to it. I figured the same thing happened here. Then when I undid his revert, I was again reverted, albeit by a different admin, in less than a minute. Now I was a little perturbed at the seeming lack of investigation into what they were calling blatant vandalism. So maybe my next comment was a little less civil. My fault for shooting the messanger, but I definitely didn't use any language that would offend people over the age of six. Moving on to the third revert, in which I probably made the "jerks" statement. I think you can see where I'm coming from, just having to deal with several reverts minutes before, I was growing less and less patient. Then came the final warning/revert from Alansohn, who added the box telling people to complain to my ISP. That was the last straw for me, and I decided to let you guys win, and forgo my wishes to not sign in, and signed in, apologizing and setting the record straight, even though the only policy I really violated was the civility policy, and by calling someone a jerk (how horrible). Mind you, I was falsely accused of violating the vandalism policy to the point of a ban. That won't sit well with most people.
So that brings us to where they nicely removed the warnings since they were invalid. Then you decided to butt in and leave a rather unfriendly comment with the heading "friendly advice". I've already commented on that, and I still think you should stay out of arguments that have been resolved, because if you don't, they tend to heat up and you have people like myself getting angry all over again and feeling the need to explain themselves. As an admin, who ought to hold them selves higher than your average editor, I'd appreciate it if you heed my very sincere advice on that front. Once an argument cools, let it go.
Hopefully with that context we can be civil. When I said I'd like it if we didn't talk again, it was kinda baiting you to take the last word. Some people are just like that, have to have the last word. Even on someone else's talkpage. My brother's like that, so I can understand if you come back to reply to this.Eganjt (talk) 20:03, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
