January 2008[edit]

Notice to new page patrollers: If you are visiting with a criticism about lack of full information for the new French commune articles the answer is yes, initially they are indeed short new articles. This has been discussed and approved in an AN/I discussion. The thing is at least five smaller wikipedias have had half decent articles on these for five years and english wikipedia is lagging way behind. These have been missing too long. It is easier to establish the pages and then build the articles upon it afterwards. Have patience and in time these will develop even fully and images, infoboxes will be added etc will be available. It is now the responsibility of WikiProject French communes to develop these to the next level and add infoboxes and to translate from french to write the articles. You may not be aware of how much could actually be written for each of these if this is given time to develop. I believe I am setting up something very useful to build upon in the future. PLease show me the respect by not disturbing me while these articles are started. All the best and regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:00, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletions[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. • Gene93k (talk) 07:27, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

and it helps to give a little more indication of what is wrong than just "no stated notability" For a person, at least indicate the field of activity--it helps us admins when we screen the proposed deletions, because mody of us specialise in particular types of people--for example, i dont try to do musicians,DGG (talk) 08:27, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the tips. I didn't realise you should include edit summaries even for proposed deletions. I guess I was in a bit of a rush. I normally always fill out the edit summary for all other edits to articles. I thought it was a bit of a waste to fill it in if the article may become deleted. But hey, you only learn my mistake. Mushawe clean-up[edit]

I would welcome specific suggestions on improvement? Babakathy (talk) 12:06, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello I couldn't find any depletion discussion related to Obay. If it isn't obvious form the name you can link to it by using {{db-repost|discussion}}. In any case WP:CSD#G4 doesn't apply to repostings after a previous speedy deletion. Those may still be speedy deleted but need to be tagged explicitly with a reason.--Tikiwont (talk) 14:23, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I used the wrong tag. The article needs to be deleted anyhow, and the user persists in re-creating it (see User_talk:Squishy_bananas). You might want to ban them. Shootthedevgru (talk) 14:46, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, then you might want to bring the article to WP:AfD. If I interpret the log correctly the only actual deletion so far was just for lack of context, so I don't see where you see a problem that warrants a block at this time (banning is a community decision, btw). --Tikiwont (talk) 15:09, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Silje Nes[edit]

Hi, I removed the speedy deletion request (actually I removed the {{hangon}}) on Silje Nes. She has been profiled in the media, among others, with an article in Aftenposten and that in itself is a claim to notability. I have added that ref to the article, but the reference is in Norwegian. Knowing very little about music myself, I cannot do much to improve the article beyond "stub"-level, but I feel that the subject warrants a place in the encyclopedia. Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:29, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

That's fine as long as the reference justifies it Shootthedevgru (talk) 00:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

yeah, I know all about patrolling, and I think it's ridiculous. I've seen far too many vandalisms getting patrolled. What's the point of patrolling, if people doing the patrolling are just going to let nonsense and personal attacks go without tagging them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Corvus cornix (talkcontribs) 00:52, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Your recent article[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Chow Hall, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. redlock (talk) 02:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, I wasn't the one who created this article, I merely tagged it as not having any verifiable references. Shootthedevgru (talk) 02:23, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

RE: Patrolling pages and tagging with CSD[edit]

Absolutely right; clearly I've been inconsistent. Apologies for any inconvenience this caused you. Regards - Fritzpoll (talk) 00:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Tom Haughey[edit]

Hi there, I declined your speedy on this (though I quite understand why you placed it!) A quick Google for "Tom Haughey rugby" suggests he's definitely notable. I've put an {{unreferenced}} tag on it instead. Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 07:50, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

About Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia[edit]

Would you please remove the speedy deletion tag on the above article? Reasons are attached already on its talk page. Ngckmax (talk) 09:57, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Remote PC Repair[edit]

Hello – I came across this AFD today while working the backlogs, and it had a problem.

Just after you nominated this article for deletion, you blanked and redirected it to Remote Assistance without any comment or explanation I could find. Remember that once nominated for deletion, articles must not be blanked and the template must not be removed until the discussion has run its course. I was a little confused until I figured out what had happened.

I restored the article and I've relisted the discussion on February 28's log. You can't withdraw your nomination because another editor supports deletion or merging, so it has to run the five days. Please see the guide to deletion and deletion process for more information, or ask an admin for help. Thanks. - KrakatoaKatie 05:12, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

I realised I shouldn't have done it, but I initially thought the redirect to a better article would have been better. The article on Remote PC Repair was written very strangely, almost like guestbook spam masquerading as a genuine message. Ejay (talk) 08:44, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

you should think before delete[edit]

my link is NOT spam. did you look at all those links. My site is about the great wall and does not sell anything, unlike some of the other links. What are you trying to do ? Protect another of those links ?

It is an 'external link' that is on topic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kinabaloo (talkcontribs) 11:32, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Your action is unreasonable[edit]

I did not add the link as a reference but as an external link - an external site that is totally on topic and with useful information and a clear description.

For example, 'walk the great wall', another external link, is basically a commercial site but that is still there. Other photo galleries of the great wall are also untouched by you. What is your criteria ??

Apply fair judgement or I will need to refer the matter to arbitration.

Actually an administrator will probably block you for your inappropriate actions. Don't think your actions are not noticed by others. And how do you claim that you are not spamming, after you put those links of your own website, (which incidentally is the same as your username) on at least 20 other articles? This is self-promotion. If someone else had of put your webpage up as a link on one or two articles, it would be OK. But when you do it yourself repetatively on several dozen articles, it is considered spamming. Ejay (talk) 11:41, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Why redirect to that page? Totally different things. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Williamleozhu (talkcontribs) 12:44, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of IntelliCAD[edit]

An article that you have been involved in editing, IntelliCAD, has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IntelliCAD. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? The image has not been tagged for seven days- I have removed your tag and tagged it correctly. I see you're using Twinkle- for most image deletions, you sould use the 'di' tab, rather than the 'csd' tab. J Milburn (talk) 10:32, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Buffalo AirStation[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Buffalo AirStation has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP is not a product catalogue

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 08:25, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for 3DS photo[edit]

I noticed your latest upload, and I'd just like to make a friendly suggestion that you should upload a photograph of a 3DS in the same position, but powered off. The problem is, the Wikimedia Commons community is very fussy in regards to derivative works, and there have been numerous cases in the past (see commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Liquid crystal displays, commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Taipei IT Month SCET PCH-2007 20131203.jpg, commons:Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by 彭家杰) where similar photographs have been deleted. Your image potentially risks being deleted, because the 3DS operating system is proprietary software that is copyrighted by Nintendo. Instead of having your contributions unfairly deleted, I'd suggest replacing your image with a slightly different one, so that there is no reason for Commons to suggest deletion based on the grounds of derivative works. --benlisquareTCE 08:00, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
