Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Elishama Kaunda. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Virtual reality, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. GermanJoe (talk) 08:06, 14 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification Regarding COI[edit]

Hello German Joe. I've read your message and I'd like to respond to it. I'm new to Wikipedia but not that new to the rules. I've always wanted to be a contributor to the platform and I'm especially keen on improving iGaming articles. My special interest is in bettering online casino and sports betting articles, which is why I decided to officially sign up. I'm in no way affiliated to any of the companies associated in the iGaming niche and I'm not looking to receive any form of compensation. I just feel there's no much information to help readers have a safer online gambling experience. Most people lose their money because they are ignorant and the best way to get information to them is by updating the outdated Wikipedia pages. I hope this is clear enough. Thanks! COI in relation to Dwayne Fields?[edit]

Also I would be really interested to know why you felt Wikipedia needed a brand new page for this subject.Ch1p the chop (talk) 10:24, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ch1p the chop. Thank you for your feedback. First and foremost, I'm in no way associated with Dwayne Fields. I don't know him in person and all the information included was gathered from different sources. I'll be happy to send all the sources.

Secondly, when I started writing the content, there wasn't any Dwayne Fields page. That's why when I posted it, Snowycats mentioned that there was a page that already exsisted and I immediately marked the draft for speedy deletion. Elishama Kaunda (talk) 10:23, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Elishama Kaunda I think the best course of action would be for you to make a COI disclosure on your user page including links to your Upwork and Linkedin profiles. In the meantime please refrain from making any direct edits to Dwayne Fields and instead leave edit requests on the article's talk page, someone with more experience in this area will get back to you at some point. Thanks.Ch1p the chop (talk) 12:26, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Ch1p the chop. I think I'll leave the edit requests. Is it okay if I can also submit my sources of information? Elishama Kaunda (talk) 13:06, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's fine. However, I would really appreciate it if you declare exactly who is paying you on your user page and on the article's talk page before making the edit requests. Thank you.Ch1p the chop (talk) 14:06, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Ch1p the chop, you've really insisted I declare whoever is paying me to have the article written or edited. Truth of the matter there's no one. Like I said, this is information I genuinely wrote, just like I will be posting and publishing other articles on mountaineers, and edits on iGaming articles. PS: I read through most of the important Wikipedia Guidelines and Terms and Conditions. Elishama Kaunda (talk) 19:35, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Elishama Kaunda thank you for reading the Tsand C's. You mentioned that you worked for Upwork? What kind of work did you do for Upwork and is there anyway we can verify this, through your Linkedin page perhaps?Ch1p the chop (talk) 10:31, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
HiCh1p the chop, I used to work as an online casino and sports betting Copywriter. That was since 2013 March until recently when I started working for ComeOn Group as an independent freelancer, writing for their blogs and pages. The best I can do to substantiate this is by sending you invoices that I've been billing them as well as the invoices paid. As for my Linkedin profile, you can always look it up - Elishama Kaunda. I've stated I live and breathe Wikipedia but by no means imply that I'm selling my services to have people's pages published here. Again, if you'd like, I'd send you countless opportunities that I've turned down from people asking me to help publish their content here. Elishama Kaunda (talk) 23:27, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Elisham. Thank you for sharing your Linkedin profile. It says on there that you're a senior Wikipedia contributer. However, you have less tan 50 edits to your name, and judging by your edits you clearly don't understand how to format citations properly, and clearly don't understand Wikipedia content policies. Do you have another account or something? Also it's clear from your Linkedin page that you are a professional Wikipedia editor, if this is the case you need to declare that on your user page and include links to both your Linkedin profiles and Upwork profiles. Do you think you could do that please? Once you have done that you can start leaving edit requests on the talk page of Dwayne Fields, I won't answer them because, because personally I am anti WP:BOGOF but perhaps a more senior editor might be able to help you with your client.Ch1p the chop (talk) 16:25, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ch1p the chop, it seems you are not understanding what I'm trying to tell you. I USED TO WORK ON UPWORK BUT NO LONGER WORK THERE. I am also not paid by anyone to make any edits. I just feel frustrated by the fact that you are turning down an article I took time to write based on the fact that you think I'm being paid. I read the terms and conditions thoroughly and ensured I wrote the article based on factual information collected. Again, if you'd like as I've said severally, I'll send you all the references which I used to piece the article together. I also have a question for you, do you think I'd be dumb enough to publish anything under my name if I was being paid, knowing clearly it's against Wikipedia's terms and conditions? Elishama Kaunda (talk) 18:09, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Elishama Kaunda, following on from your last message I have take the decision to draftify the Wikipedia entry about your client. It's been lovely meeting you and I wish you all the best in your new role.Ch1p the chop (talk) 21:31, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
