Frank Byrne, Irish Nationalist

[edit]

I see that you have created a draft article for Frank Byrne. In my eyes, it's certainly of notability and will gladly help you find sources and wiki-ise if required. Cheers. Uamaol (talk) 03:24, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I have tons of material but trying to build a reasonable article that doesn't duplicate existing information in articles on the main activities of Byrne. My goal is to be able to add this reference in those and other articles. I'm going to try to submit the relatively light article and expand at my leisure, but it still may be un-wiki.
Fair enough. I'll keep it on my watchlist and make minor additions. Uamaol (talk) 18:33, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm basically done for now. Maybe you could help clear up a citation issue. I have two sentences that are cited by the same article. I hate to but the citation again as it seems sort of silly. I could make it all one sentence for a single citation but that is cumbersome. What is your suggestion?
"Mrs. Byrne was believed to be the woman who brought to Dublin the surgical knives with which the Phoenix Park murders were committed.[citation needed] She was arrested but subsequently released when she was unable to be identified by the informant James Carey.<xref>"The Fenian Murderers". New York Times. February 21, 1883. Retrieved 2016-01-01.</xref>"
Sorry, I did not see the above until now. Is there any news regarding the moving of this article to Frank Byrne? Uamaol (talk) 19:11, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's all taken care of now. Shows up on the disambiguation page and I resolved my citation question. Thanks. Fgurnee (talk) 19:29, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's on the disambig page because I added it. I got someone to move the Frank Byrne redirct from Frank M. Byrne to the disambig page as it made no logical sense, so that's kind of solved for now. Uamaol (talk) 08:28, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect! That's much better. I had gotten a lot of help and had messages all over the place, so I missed/forgot you did the disambig in the first place. Thanks for straightening this out. Fgurnee (talk) 18:31, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox v Draft

[edit]

This is by way of constructive criticism and meant to assist you as a newer editor; I'm not intend ing to WP:BITE you. I see you reverted my edits to your draft of Draft:Frank Byrne, Irish Nationalist and also started a new sandbox page for the same subject. There is very little point is duplicating this article because when the sandbox version is finished or ready for prime time, you have to turn it into a draft where others will review it. Leaving it as a draft allows other editors to contribute which they are most unlikely to do in your sandbox unless you specifically ask them. So then you will have to cut and paste the sandbox version into the draft page because the draft button on your sandbox page will not work as that page already exists, so you wold have to give it a new name and get the old one deleted. Overall continuing to improve the draft is, in my opinion, a better and cleaner way to go. My edits, based on some 10 years and 80,000+ edits, were to improve the draft in its current state. Having several headers with only short sentences or paragraphs is not very good prose, which is what an encyclopaedia is, and is essentially not much better than a list of bullet points, hence my edit. If a header becomes too big with too many paragraphs, it can always be sectionalised if it contains several distinct topics but it should read well. Do remember that wikipedia is a collaborative effort and just because you don't particularly like another editor's work does not mean you should just revert it; it may well be an improvement. If you do that often other editors may not assist you in future. Just my 2d worth. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 06:59, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you again. I agree with you 100%. I intend to use the sandbox only while I am trying to collect my data and enter it. I am doing this in very small increments at this busy time. So I have sections I intend to fill in, but have it only as an outline at the moment. Once I get the basic info in, I will not use the sandbox and use the regular draft and take advantage of the reviews. Thanks for your help. f.

Made a disambiguation page at Frank Byrne for you

[edit]

In answer to your AFC Helpdesk question, I turned Frank Byrne into what we call a WP:Disambiguation page, one that helps readers find their way to the correct person of the several that share that name. Nice work on the new article! MatthewVanitas (talk) 10:31, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Fgurnee (talk) 15:05, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

There is really no need to actually thank me for each constructive edit I make to Frank Byrne (Irish nationalist). Anything I do is just to improve it. Unfortunately I was unable to find the NYT for March 29, 1893. For the time being I have it on my watchlist and will add whatever citation improvements I can make as time permits. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 10:24, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know, and I won't going forward. But I greatly appreciate all the help I got getting this going. There are a lot of intricacies and the help was done in a courteous manner to teach me some of them. This is not what one normally experiences when trying to share information online. Fgurnee (talk) 16:40, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I found the March 29 article!
