IP edits to your user page[edit]

Hi, I've noticed that an IP has been editing your userpage. I've left the edits in place as they do not seem to be offensive, and it could be you editing while logged out. I'm just letting you know in case it is not you, and you wish to review them. --Petros471 19:44, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, indeed, the person editing my user page was myself. I haven't even noticed how I logged out, must have been an error connected to my browser. Or it might be the fact that I still am somewhat of a WP n00b ;) Nevertheless, thanks a lot for the message! --Vargher 19:52, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mike McGregor (Can)/code page

you know which one you want... BTW, if you know how to link to a category to group like-minded users together, please modify...Mike McGregor (Can) 03:15, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage was briefly delisted by a rogue admin[edit]

This user believes that only articles need reflect a NPOV, and that displaying political, religious, or other beliefs using userboxes and user categories should not be banned.

You have a userbox Template:User UN which links your userpage to United Nations Wikipedians. There is currently a movement to ban userboxes from Wikipedia which are shared and which create Lists of Wikipedians. Certain admins have taken it upon themselves to preemptively sabotage and/or delete such categories and template. Here is the incident report which reported damage to yours, in which hundreds of userpages were delinked from categories without the users' knowledge. They have been stopped, barely, and the damage reverted— for now.

There is a Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll, which if passed, will make required by policy the damage done to categories and templates such as User UN/United Nations Wikipedians. If you do not want this to happen, I urge you to vote Oppose. in the poll. Support is currently running at about 66%, and your vote could make the difference. It is said to require 75%-80% to be deemed reflective of consensus.

Thank you,

Replaceable fair use Image:Salem.JPG[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Salem.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 20:13, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Insignium band 03.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Insignium band 03.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:38, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

VHEMT Talk Page Comments (User:Shanoman)[edit]

Thank you for your insightful comments on my Talk page regarding my views on VHEMT. Please go back there to read & reply to my responses. Thanks! Shanoman (talk) 19:30, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.---You may want to check out the updates I've made to my user page; I don't think I'm quite the objectivist monolith you may have taken me for. I've changed! I've reformed! I grew a conscience and finally got real! Shanoman (talk) 03:51, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Staunch anti-communism[edit]

First of all, my user page is not a blog. I find it bordering on the absurd that you would single my personal statement of belief out and bother to leave a tirade on there. Anyway, I'm fully aware of the existence of useful idiots even today, especially in places like former East Germany, which were far less separated from the west economically. As to actual former countries of the USSR, the only ones with significant support for Marxism are the ones where totalitarianism was replaced with kleptocratic dictators. This support comes from ignorance of what free markets and democracies actually look like.

No socialist party has even surpassed the 5% of votes needed to get a parliamentary seat in Estonia, the same is true in Latvia and Lithuania. The intelligentsia in countries where a successful transition to market economies and democracy took place is almost unanimously disdainful towards old-school leftism.

That is not to say your strawman accusation of me equating anti-Marxism with rabid neo-liberalism is true. I know full well that my flavor of extreme individualism is not the norm anywhere, including former communist nations. There's a far cry between modern center-left Keynesianism and outright Marxism. People support social democracy, in the sense that they hold the welfare of citizens to be the state's paramount duty. Supporters of Marxist socialism, the workers-controlling-the-means-of-production variety, are held in about as high regard as religious lunatics and UFO enthusiasts.
