Unspecified source/license for File:All Killa No Filla cover art.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:All Killa No Filla cover art.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 12:46, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I know all this is a lot to take in, and I'm sorry, but please read WP:NFCC. File:All Killa No Filla cover art.jpg can't be kept here unless your draft article becomes an accepted article within 7 days. You also can't use a non-free file in your draft, so I'm going to have to comment that usage out of the draft. The somewhat impersonal template message that will follow shortly does explain more. -- Begoon 13:34, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am new at this & my goal was to make the image public domain, but I took inspiration from the logo on the Security Now page and that led me astray. I am bamboozled by the number of PD-options in "File copyright tags/Public domain" - please can you advise what I need to do, to make it be known as free and in the public domain? I don't even know how to use the Talk page - is this right? Furriephillips (talk) 14:34, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can't "make an image public domain" unless you personally own it. If you do actually own it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you don't personally own it, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. And yes, you used the talk page just fine (WP:INDENT has further tips).-- Begoon 14:48, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm a fan of/listener to the AKNF podcast and I created the Rachel Fairburn and All Killa No Filla (podcast) pages and the associated logo, then I had a conversation with Rachel, over email, after I'd let her know my actions, via Twitter - she was excited about the pages going live. In our last exchange, I asked about the licence & Rachel responded "Our logo was designed by a mate and we aren't bothered really if it's used x". I'm pretty sure that's the highest level of sophistication I'll be able to get. They (Rachel & Kiri) are using the image on all podcasts aggregator sites - I feel like "PD-self" will suffice & be quite safe. -- Furriephillips (talk) 20:28, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've popped a screenshot of our correspondence on my site (https://furrie.net/sites/default/files/images/AKNF_Logo_RachelFairburn.png), in case it helps. -- Furriephillips (talk) 21:06, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you can get the actual copyright holder to follow the steps in the links above I'm afraid that won't be enough. Wikipedia is very careful about copyright. The image can still be used as fair-use, but only in an actual article. That means it might get deleted if your article is not accepted within the 7 day period. See Wikipedia:Drafts#Preparing drafts, which explains - "Non-free content cannot be included in draft articles per Wikipedia's policy on where non-free media is allowed. Any desired non-free content should be added to the article once it has been moved to the mainspace." -- Begoon 23:57, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
