Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 19:16, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am new to Widipedia and was just copying and pasting text into my user page quickly without much thought so that I could work on another article for the artist Andrew Moore. The text that I put in place is absolutely correct to be banned. However, I now don't have the opportunity to undo what I put in place. I would like to go in and edit my user page with appropriate copy, but am not sure how to go about doing that now. Please advise, if it is possible to delete what is on the page so that I can start fresh. Goffgrafix (talk) 19:25, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Assuming good faith and the conditions outlined by the user below. Bjelleklang - talk 09:54, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like it's already been done, as the above unblock request is the only edit I see on your contributions. We actually delete copyright violations (including copy-pasted text) on discovery, so that's moot. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 20:10, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You weren't actually blocked for copyright violations, but for promoting a company through your userpage. You also have a name which is identical to the name of your company, which makes it difficult for other editors to know if this is one person or a company trying to edit Wikipedia. If unblocked, how do you plan to contribute to Wikipedia? How will you handle potential COI? Keep in mind that Wikipedia have very specific notability requirements and that references are required for all articles.

I will not be writing about clients or family, as that would violate COI. I was in complete violation there as well as the copy on my user page being inappropriate. I am married to Andrew Moore, who I started to write about, so will need to delete that very rough draft. Can I write about the artist, Arthur Prince Spear (1879-1959)? He was my great grandfather and a gifted painter, and I feel he was an important historic painter. I would include references, and will most likely need help from other users to review what I'm doing and make sure I'm doing it correctly. If I can't write about a deceased ancestor, then I would most likely write about other artists that I'm not associated with in any way that I feel are important contributors to the arts.

I use goffgrafix as a username for everything, so when signing up for wikipedia, used it from habit, but I am more than happy to close this account and create a username that is not, also, my business name.

What sorts of content do users put on their user pages? Is there a reference that you can send me to? Thank you so much for your help. Goffgrafix (talk) 22:41, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unblocking you on the conditions outlined above, and also on the condition that you rename the account. Please see Wikipedia:Changing_username/Simple for information on how to do this (it's very easy). As for userpages, you can put most things there as long as you keep it related to Wikipedia. Some info on yourself is great so we can get to know you a little more, and perhaps also some info on what topics you contribute to, and so on. Feel free to take a look at mine as one example, but there are literally millions of others to look at as well (if you have the time that is). I've taken the liberty of adding a "welcome" message on the top of this page as nobody else had done so; it links to a number of useful pages that may give you some information on how to contribute, but if you have any questions feel free to ask either me, any other Wikipedian or at the help desk.
