Welcome to WP:India

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! — Lost(talk) 14:08, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm very sorry I haven't had a chance to welcome you earlier, I have been incredibly busy lately. We are glad to have your help. Currently, we have really cut down the backlog of articles in need of copyedit. Therefore, a major goal at this moment is to identify new articles that are in need of work. When you run across them, be sure to tag them for copyediting.

If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to drop me a line. Trusilver 21:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

  • thanks for the welcome, and i appreciate it....i'm still new to wiki and tryin to contribute to the best of my abilities....if i do have any queries then i'll definitely ask u....Gprince007 05:46, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry to bother you, but as a LoCE member, I just wondered if you would be willing to have a look through the Shaw and Crompton article. It is currently a Featured Article Candidate and needs a copy-edit for grammar by someone who hasn't yet seen it. Any other ways to improve the article would also be welcome. Thank you very much, if you can. Epbr123 12:19, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Kindly, copyedit the Kaziranga National Park, it is in FAC. Its urgent. Amartyabag TALK2ME 12:02, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Kaziranga is now a FA

Thanks for all your help and co-operation you have shown to me to improve the article Kaziranga. For your knowledge, the article is now a FA. Cheers. Amartyabag TALK2ME 11:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Gprince007, I notice you are doing great work at WP:LoCE - thanks for the corrections to Sky Blue Sky. I wonder, would you mind having a go at Murree's middle section, titled Murree hills culture - I've copy-edited the rest of the article, but as a Hindi-speaker I think you will have a huge advantage over me! It's listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors/proofreading#Backlog status, about number 9. Thanks very much, please let me know if you need anything! Oil shale

Thank you for your assistance improving the Oil shale article to the GA level. Of course the work continues and I hope that you will be able to continue to contribute also for FAC nomination and improving other oil shale related articles. I think the next GAC could be the Oil shale geology and the Oil shale extraction. Beagel 14:09, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Preity Zinta FA

Hi there. The Preity Zinta article has recently achieved A-class status. Due to the wealth of support I have decided to now nominate for an FA class article which I believe and judging by the comments of others is pretty much up to. In my view it is better than some existing FA actor articles. I would therefore be very grateful if you could give it a final review in your own time and leave your comments and views at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Preity Zinta. Thankyou, your comments are always valuable. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 10:57, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Seinfeld

Thankyou for joining the Seinfeld WikiProject. Here are a few things you can do:

  • Recruit more members. (Try inviting frequent editors to articles to do with Seinfeld; check article history pages).
  • Add this template to all Seinfeld-related articles and this template to their talk pages. (A bot may be able to do this).
  • Assess articles related Seinfeld for class and importance.
  • Or just start improving articles!

It's up to you what you chose to do as a member of the project, in fact you don't have to do anything at all. But in any case, thankyou for joining. Joelster 06:01, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Capital punishment in Belarus

Thanks for proofreading. I had a question about two of your changes, if you could take a moment to review. "The number of crimes" eligible for death changed to "crime rate". My interpretation was that the author wasn't saying that the crime rate went down, or that fewer capital offenses were committed. They are saying that the number of categories of crime eligible for death decreased. To give an example: Old law: Murder, treason, war, overdue library books = four types of crimes punishable by death. New law = Murder, treason, war = three types of crimes eligible. The rate may not have gone down, but the types of offenses included in death penalty went down. Please review and see how you feel about this interpretation.

Also, "the number of capital offenses was reduced" - changed to "the number of capital offenses were reduced" The subject of this sentence is "number", not "crimes". This dictionary [1] states that when "number" is preceded by "the", it is treated as singular. Hence "was".

Thanks for reviewing these items. Unimaginative Username (talk) 08:03, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Hilary Duff GAN Review: On Hold

GA on hold — Notes left on talk page. Nehrams2020 (talk) 00:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Good work so far, the article is looking better. I am going to be going on a WikiBreak for Thanksgiving, so if you finish by Sunday, I won't be able to look over the corrections/pass the article until I get back. If you don't finish by then, that's okay since you have a full week to complete the issues. I'm going to try my best to check my watchlist on a computer away from home, so if you have any questions, I'll do my best to get back to you. Keep up the good work. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 20:51, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Why do you keep removing the info on Wrapped with Love (the new perfume by Hilary) when I have references for it. Hilarynews is the official web partner for hilaryduff.com, and they have first hand information. - --Ruwanshaun 01:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Good job on Seinfeld.

I saw your work and its well thought out. I'm Johnny and I'm just introducing myself to you that I never met before. I had second thoughts and decided that you might be more helpful than them because you are how should I say it, down to earth. I understand neutral point of view and encyclopedia but the thing that worries me is that if it's different to a normal reading encyclopedia that you read in the library, then how about giving me some activities about things I should have and at the same time get them down to the same level as we are. In other words, you and I have our own style of editing and maybe things will improve. I'm not saying that your work is bad, its some rules or wikipedia which could've improve but that's just me. If you can resolve disputes and end all of my other mistakes but keep some of my positives intact then maybe you can help me on this project called "Hong Kong Legends" 'cause I'm worried that if one day they come across me as a bad person, then maybe you are the right person for the job.

It's less than a fortnight 'til Christmas so I hope that your work will help resolve it. I'll still be online but I won't be editing unless something doesn't click. The best I can do is check on messages. If you are a down to earth person then reply to me and help me out with them. I can't change the rules but I hope you are the middle man I'm looking for that can resolve disputes and attitude if I can put it that way.

You have my honours. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 02:04, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there.
The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors.

Inkquill's editing.

I don't know what's going on in his mind but he seems to be more into Wikipedia then anything else. Even recently he deleted a small section of Jerry's parents appearances which is odd when the other minor characters appearance are there and is very determined that I'm always wrong. If you read my other message (Seinfeld talk page), he's going for a double standard. I also suppose he is reading this message as well. I don't know what to do at this point. I can't put in anything if that what makes him mad. He's not very grounded like you and me. In other words, I could be put off because everything has to be serious etc etc. Please, I can't really edit anything without setting him off, what can I do? I'm more prolific and less than a typical editor. I'm already familiar with neutral point of view and Wikipedia policy but what is he thinking?

The truth is I don't know what to do. What should've work that's all I'm asking. You should get use to my long paragraphs because I would be stressed out by the end of the day. Reply to me at my talk page. I love to be an editor but editors really need to restrain themselves if we want to make the best page ever without making a mistake. As long as his standards are high I'm holding off until he cools down and lower his standards so that the others would help in editing.

"Inane chatter"

Do you know what that means cause I don't know? There's going to be a lot of complex which makes wonder into getting a dictionary for these words. Even the word "nihilism" gives me a little uncertainty. I understand a little about "prolific" and its going to be hard. To be honest, I'm an Australian. I checked the history and they must be getting harder to think up of something. Here's when it happen when I changed that to make it easier to understand yet they stick to their conviction. 04:23, 6 January 2008 InkQuill (Talk | contribs) (57,795 bytes) (It's an American show, so U.S. punctuation rules. See comma usage; also rv "inane chatter") It would've been good if it's done in an international standard than the US standard. Well I have nothing except to pray that maybe he will learn to accept that it's an international encyclopeadia that anyone can edit. Hopefully he will learn that one day. I know I might be wrong but reply to me anyway. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 05:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Inkquill's world.

I need your help. I want to stop dealing with Inkquill anymore. He is becoming too self rightous, too unhelpful and last of all hitting my weak points by referring to my past when he thinks he knows exactly what he's doing. I don't want to go on like this. You better talk to him 'cause his edit changes are becoming aggressive and I don't know what to do. Your the only mediator I know that can help settle this once and for all. The only thing I can reference is that our worlds are colliding. He even doesn't like my approach and he doesn't have any remorse. Well Gprince007, you're my only hope. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 22:55, 10 January 2008 (UTC). Thank you. Forgive me. I just wanted a bit of drama that's all. Just need something to fill the time. My life is always boring but that's ok. Well, since I haven't heard from you for a long time, you should be able to look at Inkquill suggestion anyway. Reply to his idea as soon as you can. First episodes

Hi. Thanks for trying to keep the peace. I replied on my talk page. Cool user page, by the way. I love those little boxes (what are they called?). At the risk of others seeing and abusing it, if you want to write me at EdSJr72@gmail.com, I have other stuff that isn't Wikipedia-related to ask you about. As for Wikipedia:WikiProject Seinfeld, I've been adding seinfeld templates to episode and character pages and WikiProject Seinfeld templates to talk pages (although I'd still like to know why we want Category:WikiProject Seinfeld articles page to list all the talk pages. I'd like to work on the episode pages themselves by watching the DVDs, but I've misplaced Season 1, Disc 1 and I have this neurotic thing about wanting to start with the first episode. Any suggestions about how to see those, other than to rent the DVD? — InkQuill 18:34, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Complex words in editing.

Just on the side note when it comes to GA, FA, citing etc I don't know these words. If you have the time, can you teach me these words and things that I might come across that I don't know yet about it? In other words, I could do a series of errors if I don't get it. Teach me these words and I'll get comfortable with it. Hopefully you got your dictionary ready whatever. Thank you. Reply at my talk page. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 16:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Hilary Duff Peer review

Thanx for ur comments on the peer review page...did u mean that citation formats need to be uniform throughout the article?? like either <ref></ref> or {{cite}} throughout the article??....can u elaborate on this a little more and be a bit more specific.....thanx ???? Gprince007 (talk) 15:27, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, to take an example, the first reference "Forbes Magazine's Richest People Under 25" should probably look like this:
Mimon, Diana (2005). "Forbes Magazine's Richest People Under 25". About.com. Retrieved 2008-01-13.
Another example is the Hilary Duff Lines Up 32 Summer Dates references:
Harris, Chris (May 20, 2005). "Hilary Duff Lines Up 32 Summer Dates". MTV. Retrieved 2006-08-10. {{cite web}}: Check date values in: |date= (help)
I.e. wherever possible it's a good idea to list the author, date published, the publisher and an access date for the link. That way the reader knows more about the source, and also if the link goes away you have a better chance of retrieval. It also looks a little more polished. The "cite" templates are not manditory (between the <ref>{{cite ... }}<\ref> tags), but they do help give a consistent appearance. Thanks.—RJH (talk) 18:38, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for improving the cited info on my lip-synching paragraph. I've noticed you have undone an edit by someone who included "two RIAA certified Gold albums" in the paragraph. For her Christmas album, and for Dignity, it is stated on the main page that they went Gold and no further. While the edit by that person is unecessary, it still is correct; just thought you should know. - Ruwanshaun

I would like to improve it to FA status as well, so any help you need, I can provide. And if you're worried about grammar etc...well...I'm excellent at English so you don't need to worry about that. I'm a big fan of her, and have been working and watching over the article for a while, hence it would mean a lot if I can play a part in helping promote it to being a Featured Article. Ruwanshaun (talk) 21:10, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I couldn't find a cite either, but she said the same thing on the Ellen Degeneres show. I watched it, and also found it on Youtube. Ruwanshaun (talk) 13:05, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I can't find the link on youtube. However, I managed to download the video from a site. I can send it to you if you want. Or would you like the date? It was in April 2005, but if you want the exact date I can watch it and see.Ruwanshaun (talk) 13:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.208.248.243 (talk)

what we can do is change the TRL statement to Ellen Degeneres. She said she had made 3 new songs, and didnt have time to complete the album by the date the label wanted it, and so she decided to make remixes of her favourite songs. I'll get you the date asap!Ruwanshaun (talk) 15:11, 30 January 2008 (UTC

Hey there!

Gprince007, I haven't heard from you for a long time now. Can you at least tell me what you are doing? Maybe I'll try to restructure parts of the main Seinfeld page until you and Inkquill come back from your busy schedule. It's going to be hard to keep an eye on the page until you get back so reply to me as soon as you can. Although I am a man, are you a man or woman? I'm just curious as far as I know, it's going to be hard to find female editors as well who can help with this page. Reply to my talk page as soon as you can. I just need your word on the Seinfeld page before I jump in. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 08:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

We got trouble here!

Gprince007, the page got totally stuffed up by someone else! You got to fix up those errors! Someone is attempting to vandalise this page and I'm trying hard to think of a way to fix the page! You better hope that the other pages close to Seinfeld is not as terrible as it seems! Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 08:42, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Citing Sources

I hate to admit it but I'm not good at finding websites so that I can put in like lines to backup the info to minimise plagarism. I'm not exactly right for the job. I'm afraid you need to find someone else who can handle that like Inkquill or someone new. As far as I know, we already have up to 35 websites with various info. As complex as it is, we should have at least 5 more and for my sake not to overcite this project to death. You'll understand me. I'd rather balance it then overcite this to death 'cause I'll never know what websites would work. Sorry about it. From now I'll work in bringing Elaine's page up to the boys one step at a time. If anyone else have an idea, please put it on the Seinfeld talk page so that I will give it a go ahead. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 02:51, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Do me this honourable favour.

If you have the time, I want you to go to Elaine's page, fix up a few things etc. and somehow cite the websites into the page. It shouldn't be hard or get Inkquill to do it. Either of you could be helpful. I've already addressed Elaine's characteristics or "personality" mentioned in the discussion page and added the Kramer aspects except for the Kramer page so that it will balance out nicely that Kramer is part of our community. I wish I could edit some more but I have no more ideas right now. Thank you. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 02:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

You have a point.

You may be right about original research but we should never rule out possibilities 'cause I just started building her characteristics and allow them to shape up that section. I also added on the Elaine talk page for some help. Let's not get too negative right now. Well enjoy editing Hilary Duff. I'll get your message soon. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 08:21, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to need more lessons.

I now understand how to use the website reference now but I'm going to need more lessons like how to make tables, bold, italic, comprehensive, underline and maybe more "neutral point of view" examples. I've also started work on Hong Kong Legends. I don't know what country you live in but if you are into Jackie Chan and other kung fu heroes you can help start up this project. I also feel a little down just talking to you. Do you know other than yourself that I can talk to? Besides Inkquill, maybe someone with little experience that can gather website sources to build the page from the ground up. I don't want to end up relying on you too often unless you are ok with it. Last of all, do you use Yahoo! ? If you do my username is simply johnnyauau2000. The reason I chose a generic name so their is no way of finding out my real identity since there is so many people that have names close to mine. If you don't, tell me if it's in MSN since now my messenger can connect to msn users. I consider you as my friend now. Take your time, relax and have fun editing. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 12:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Reverting links

Hi, Johnnyauau2000 has been reverting changes I made after I merged "Mickey Abbott" into the List of Seinfeld minor characters. I redirected Mickey Abbott to List of Seinfeld minor characters#mickeyabbott, with an anchor in the list. He's changed the link back to Mickey Abbott.

This is the note I left on his page: Johnny, I merged the "Mickey Abbott" article into List of Seinfeld minor characters with an anchor that goes right to the section on Mickey. By reverting what I did, you're linking to a page that's redirected to the link I set up. I don't believe Wikipedia likes redirected links, so I change them whenever I redirect something. So please don't revert my work. Thanks. I'll post this on Gprince007's talk page too, in case I'm wrong or in case you want him to weigh in.

Since he trusts you and not me, I figured I'd let you know so you can back me up--or, if I'm wrong, let me know.  ~ InkQuill  17:45, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

The Mickey Abbot link.

About a few weeks ago, Inkquill has been doing a lot of redirecting links and also unlinked Mickey for no reason at all. I don't know how to put this but I wonder why he wants to redirect certain pages? If you already read about minor characters on Seinfeld talk page, you'll understand what I mean. I don't want to disturb you so I kept this message short and simple. Johnnyauau2000 (talk) 00:22, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Hilary Duff at FAC

Hi there, Sandy has removed the Hilary Duff nom from the WP:FAC list under her duties as FAC director. She has failed the FAC by placing the nom at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Archived nominations/March 2008. For more information see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/archiving. On the India page, which is a featured article, it does not mention that India borders Afghanistan. It mentions that the Indian gov considers it to be in the footnotes. Its best to have consistency, and since that article is featured we should follow the way its done on that page. Noor Aalam (talk) 23:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:One two three poster.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:One two three poster.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. re: Youtube link in Abbas Kiarostami

Going to the talk page should be the first thing. You probably should have done this sooner, but I'm glad you're there. You shouldn't have done it "as a warning" but more to open a dialog about why it's bad, but either way gets the message across. You should also leave a note on their talk page so they get that shiny orange bar which will help notify them. If they violate 3RR, you should report them which would get a block and hopefully get their attention. If they're new, inform them about the 3RR policy as well. You could also use a welcome template to welcome them. (See WP:BITE for more info.) However, if they don't listen, then you can try the dispute resolution process (though it seems really one sided), or you may need to get an admin involved. The best way is to report the whole problem at WP:AIV or WP:AN3 or other appropriate location. You can notify me, but you'll get a faster response at those locations which are always monitored, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365.24 days a year. In short, don't go ballistic over this, keep calm and try and explain to them why it's bad. If they don't talk or comply, seek help. You may also want to notify them of our external link policy. Good luck. MECUtalk 13:13, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

You appear not willing to think about what you already must know. I told you earlier, and thrice, that you must write to YouTube, raising the issue with them. YouTube is not an illegal site, and when they publish something I assume that the material is not in violation of laws. Your repeated assertion that the work at issue were in violation of copyright laws may be valid for you, but for me amounts to nothing more than a mere assertion. You say that you "believe that ...", but I am not bound to act according to your believes; you may believe in ten Gods, and I may believe in none, and vice versa — people may talk about their beliefs inside their churches and other places of worship, and not on the pages of Wikipedia. When you write to YouTube, they will remove the video from their site as soon as they find out that your suspicion coincided with reality. When this happens, we will notice it immediately, since on linking to that particular video, YouTube will announce that due to some copyright violations the requested video was removed. Should this come to pass, we shall remove the link from Wikipedia as a "dead" link. Please do not remove the link right now, as in that case I shall not stay quiet. Please also do not write to me or send me messages either --- I find communication with you not constructive, as time and again you have proven that you are not willing to think about what I wrote to you earlier. For completeness: I have never advocated using illegal videos, not here not anywhere. I have only said that YouTube being a legal and respectable website, they are fully capable of investigating the cases that would possibly violate laws --- I am not a policeman, neither are you. The difference between us seems to be that you think that you have some divine right to interfere in the matters that are none of your business; an example: you were so rude as to remove my text from the talk page of Kiarostami's entry one the basis of a most risible argument ever uttered by a human tongue. End of the stoty. --BF 13:48, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Sourcing other places.

I manage to find a few source on the official page that goes along what I recently add. Dumb question. How in the world can you use DVD as a source. I mean I find something in "Notes About Nothing" and I couldn't put it on the page, then what do I do instead? Well if you have any ideas, please let me know and I might put it to good use. Umm...just wanted to know why do you edit everything other people write??.....the episode summary in Roadies was correct before you edited it, but still. Why dont you write it yourself instead of editing every single time before someone else does if you want your words to be there! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.95.140.188 (talk) 14:08, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I checked over the changes he made and everything is still there - he just rearranged things a bit, nothing was removed. Hard to see with just diffs though. You might wish to reconsider your revert. --NrDg 15:23, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

HSM Summer Session

I had posted the info on High School Musical: Summer Session as I was creating the page, and included that in the main article under "Spinoffs and other media". NoseNuggets (talk) 1:32 PM US EDT May 14 2008
