{{helpme}} I have created an article using word processing software and don't know what to do with it now. I have read the tutorials, etc. but can't even figure out where to past my article. Can someone do the formatting for me if I present the article? Is this where I put my article? Do I start formatting from here?

William Earl Ormshaw

William Earl Ormshaw (born February 7, 1937, in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) is a former hockey referee, and a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame since 2005.

Earl was born in Winnipeg and grew up on Pritchard Avenue and went to school at Isaac Newton High School.

He began his officiating career in the early 1960's, officiating young children. This was the beginning of what was to be a storied career as an on-ice official. He worked his way through all levels of minor hockey until his professionalism and abilities brought him to levels of higher hockey. He began to work Intermediate hockey throughout the leagues in rural Manitoba, back when these games were officiated with only two referees as opposed to the more common three-official system. Ultimately, his abilities brought him to the Western Canadian Hockey League as both a referee and a linesman in the Canadian University, the Canadian Amateur Senior Hockey League (CASH), as well as virtually every league in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas. His recorded number of games throughout his officiating career number near 1800, which does not include his years of minor hockey, nor many of the championship events he worked.

His abilities took him to many prestigious events, where he officiated and represented the branch and the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association with integrity, professionalism and a commitment to playing within the rules. He was a linesman at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Winnipeg in 1974-75. He was a referee at the Canadian University Championships in Trois Rivières, Quebec, Canada in 1983-84. Earl also officiated at three Canadian Allan Cups, all in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He officiated at two Centennial Cups in Selkirk and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. He has referreed at three Hardy Cup championships with the Winipeg North End Flyers as well as the Warroad Lakers.

One of the most prominent achievements that Earl was awarded was his certification as a Level VI official by the Canadian Hockey Association. He received this certification in 1978 in Ottawa, Canada. The Canadian Hockey Association’s officiating program is comprised of six levels, where only the most elite ever receive the recognition as a Level VI.

Earl also found time to be a leader within the hockey program and community in Manitoba, Canada. He served as the Referee-In-Chief for many leagues, and until the day of his passing on March 25, 2007, remained the Referee-In-Chief of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League. Earl’s expertise in officiating also placed him many times into a supervisory role at many prestigious and high profile events, including the Centennial Cup National Championships held in Winnipeg in 1992. Throughout his years, he has been responsible for the development of countless officials that went on to national, international or professional competition. There are few who have passed through the elite levels of hockey in the province of Manitoba who do not owe, to much extent, their success to this man. • HMAOP: Welcome to Wikipedia! You are very welcome to contribute a new article (see User:TenPoundHammer for an explanation on how to start an article), but, in addition to what he said, let me point out a few other things to keep in mind. Wikpedia has several policies and guidelines regarding articles, that I very much recommend you familiarize yourself with first. The most important of these are WP:Verifiability, WP:Neutral point of view and WP:No original research. In particular, the WP:Verifiability policy basically requires that factual information in Wikipedia articles be referenced to reliable sources, such as newspaper and journal articles, books, governmental websites, etc. The article you wish to create, whose draft you posted above, also needs to have such references. The policy WP:Neutral point of view basically says that Wikipedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view and avoid expressing personal opinions of Wikipedia editors, even if these opinions are perfectly valid and justified. Instead, opinions and evaluative comments (such as praise and criticism), need to be attributed and referenced to reliable sources. In this regard, some of the language in your draft would need to be moderated, e.g. phrases like "There are few who have passed through the elite levels of hockey in the province of Manitoba who do not owe, to much extent, their success to this man". Having said this, let me reiterate, however, that you are very much welcome and encouraged to be a Wikipedia contributor. Regards, Nsk92 (talk) 00:41, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
