Please be constructive[edit]

I have reverted your recent edits to Kim Tibbs because they didn't appear to be constructive, particularly your usage of misleading edit summaries. Also, since you seem to be a single purpose account with a conflict of interest, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and refrain from making substantive changes to the article, and propose your changes on the talk page instead. Thanks. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:48, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Kim Tibbs, you may be blocked from editing. Thank you. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:03, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

~Anachronist I just responded to you concerning why I felt that the edits are a little too harsh. I explained to you that I am no conflict of interest but was delighted to see that she was included as I follow the Expansion Sound. Not trying to be blocked but I feel like you are being too hard on me, an elderly gentlemen. I appreciate good soul music, and feel like if you were to actually listen to her sound, you would see why I edited that she was a singer. I don't know if this is a personal issue that you have taken to me, but I have no reason to argue or fight with you. I just wanted to make sure that her page is respected just because I am a fan of her music. Would you like to discuss anything more so that we can stop the hostile like emails? I mean no harm at all.Howellguy (talk) 22:12, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

From one elderly gentleman to another: Thanks for your message on my talk page. You can reply here instead to maintain continuity.
To clarify the main point you made, we absolutely cannot make any claim of fact about a living person unless that claim is backed up by a citation to a reliable source. It's fine to call her a singer, but that's already covered by the word "musician". I have no quibble with that, really, but having both terms is redundant; just pick one and I won't revert it.
I do object to the misleading edit summaries you included in your edits, and your removal of valid tags in the article. I assumed you have a conflict of interest because you are what we call a Wikipedia:Single-purpose account, in which all your activity is in a single subject area. I hold the view that someone declaring himself a "fan" does indeed have a conflict of interest due to a desire to put the subject in the best possible light. The fact remains that Kim Tibbs herself wrote this article about herself, which is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. Until the article is expanded by someone else, not just paraphrasing the same two sentences, the COI tag should remain. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response. I wasn't aware that she made the article, but I am sure that she explained herself as I am trying to explain to you that again, I have no conflict of interest. I am indeed a fan of good music, but, I am learning how to get on here and do these edits and everything is a little confusing. I removed your message earlier thinking that it was a personal issue that you had with me, and I do apologize. But, could you help me out? Obviously, you know a great deal more about the corrections and how to do stuff. Since I am messing up royally, could you help me in editing her page then? That way, I am completely neutral. My next artist that I wanted to look more into was Ann Peebles. I am a huge soul fan and I don't want to be looked at as biased. I served my country, am a law abiding citizen, buried my wife and oldest daughter a few years back, and am just lucky to be here in the state of mind that I am in. I know we can find a way to make this situation better so in the end, that we both can keep trying to place our voice out there. Could you help me with that?Howellguy (talk) 22:31, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, one thing that would be useful would be to fill in an infobox. I have added one to the right of the article, but it has several empty fields that would benefit from some research and sources to cite. Some of the sources already cited in the article may contain some info for the infobox. Feel free to ask me any questions. There is no need to fill in all the fields, just the relevant ones. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:51, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Citation help[edit]

I can see that you are trying to help me and I do appreciate that so much. I do have a serious question. Just how do I start the process of adding stuff and how do you find the codes? I don't see how in the world you and all these other writers are so good at this editing stuff. I tried to interpret the best way I could, but some of the stuff is rather confusing. If I try to attempt at filling in some of the information from the articles that are already there, do I have to add the source again? I didn't do those edits and just want to see the poor girl get her respect. The label she is on is the same one as Rick James and a lot of other artists in the soul world. She has a BBC Artist page that I think has her birthday. How can I utilizse that? I am going to attach the BBC page to our talk here if that is ok. Do you mind helping me? I promise I feel awful and don't want to offend you for your efforts at helping me. Who knows? Maybe one day, I will be a professional editor at my age! Haha! And does the conflict of interest have to remain? Does it show anywhere that Kim meant to write the article or didn't know the guidelines? And if so, have any other writers chimed in with information other than myself? I just want to do what I can and then move on to my other favorite artists as I know you have a world of stuff that you could be focusing on. Howellguy (talk) 23:11, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oh No! I have tried to edit and even added a source, but did it poorly and severely need help if you didn't mind giving me a hand. I went to the all credit and saw that she is associated with Percy Sledge and tried to add the source and guess what! I failed horribly. By Chance, what is your name? My name is Tom. Thank you for helping me as I know that the addition that I added is incorrectly formatted, please. Thank you. Howellguy (talk) 23:39, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the comments from around the web URL in the infobox so now it appears. HTML comments are indicated by <!-- comment goes here -->. Just remove the <!-- and the --> and you have un-commented the text inside.
For citations, you can read Wikipedia:Citing sources but here's the short version:
Citations are enclosed between an opening 'ref' and closing '/ref' tag, as in
<ref>{{cite web | author=xxx | title=yyy | url=http://xyz.com |date=12 June 2012}}</ref>
— if you put that in the text of the article, the citation will appear as a superscript in the text, with a footnote in the "References" section.
If you want to cite the same reference in multiple places, you can name the ref tag, and then use that name later without repeating the reference:
First time: <ref name="abcd">{{cite web | author=xxx | title=yyy | url=http://xyz.com |date=12 June 2012}}</ref>
Subsequent use of the same citation: <ref name="abcd" />
Note that the second time it's a single tag, not a pair of tags, and it is closed with />.
I hope that helps. See my user page User:Anachronist for my name and other information. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:56, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
