Airport stations
[edit]Please do not add the airport icon for stations unless they directly serve the airport (e.g. T.F. Green Airport station) or are a station primarily serving the airport via dedicated shuttles (e.g. BWI Rail Station). Stations like South Station or Worcester Union Station where a connecting transit service happens to serve the airport should not be indicated as serving the airport in route diagrams or station lists. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:22, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Pi.1415926535,
- I very deeply apologize for my errors. I was just trying to be helpful. The reason I added airport icons to the stations I did is because I noticed there were other stations not directly serving airports (for example, San Jose on Caltrain's line) that were marked with an airport icon. However, I understand if this was a misleading mistake by another user that did not follow the rules. I thought it would make sense to add airport indicators to stations located near airports, but I suppose I was incorrect. I did read the rules and tried to comply with them, but if I missed something then please forgive me.
- Usually whenever I try to help, it blows up in my face and I am told not to do something, so I understand if I am breaking the rules and misleading others by adding the airport icon. Is there another icon I can add that may be more suitable for stations with connecting service to airports that do not directly serve them?
- Thank you in advance for your time and patience, and once again, I greatly apologize.
- Respectfully,

- Also, I apologize if I come across as disrespectful. I am a new user on Wikipedia and still doing my best to learn, so I apologize if it appears that I am not taking responsibility for my actions. I am and I am very deeply sorry. Please forgive me for my errors.
- Thanks,

- Don't worry, no one expects new editors to be perfect. As long as you're willing to listen and learn, you'll be just fine.
- In this case, general consensus seems to be that the airport icon should only be used for stations actually at airports, as I noted above. Wikipedia is not a travel guide; information about connecting services is intended to allow readers to get to related articles, not to plan their journeys. The icon that you saw for San Jose shouldn't have been there for you to model off of. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 02:16, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Understood. Thanks. In that case, I also noticed that another user placed an airport icon for the 44th Street/Washington station on the Valley Metro Rail page for Phoenix, Arizona, even though that station is not really located at the airport. Is that not supposed to be there either? If so, I can remove it now. HydroWorldOutlook769 (talk) 02:24, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- I assume you mean at Template:Valley Metro Rail? That should be fine as is, since 44th Street/Washington station primarily serves the airport (via Skytrain). Pi.1415926535 (talk) 04:00, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Got it. Thanks, @Pi.1415926535. HydroWorldOutlook769 (talk) 18:27, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @Pi.1415926535,
- Sorry to bother you again. I noticed that the Broad Run station on the Virginia Railway Express Manassas Line is currently located right next to Manassas Regional Airport, and even mentions "Airport" in its station name. Right now, Manassas Regional Airport primarily serves general aviation, but the City of Manassas is planning to expand and add commercial airline service to that same airport in the next two to three years. Could Broad Run station be considered an airport station now and marked with an airport icon? And if not, should we wait until Manassas Regional Airport adds commercial service before adding the icon? I ask because I know the airport icon is primarily only appropriate for official airport stations, like you stated above, but I am also wondering if that criterion applies only to active commercial-service airports.
- For instance, although the Newport News Transportation Center is located next to and within short distance of Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, which is a mostly general-aviation airport but is served by one airline (American), the station still primarily serves the city and not the airport, which is why it's not allowed to have an icon. - From my understanding, at least. HydroWorldOutlook769 (talk) 18:16, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
