Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! SounderBruce 04:17, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Census data

[edit]

FYI, there seems to be a consensus not to present 2020 census data in the same manner as that of previous censuses, due to changes in methodology. Examples of ways this can be presented can be found here and here. Also, we use the US Census Bureau for citing census data. Bneu2013 (talk) 06:30, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kazakhstan Population pyramid

[edit]
An example

I meant no offense. It's great to have more people take an intrest in population pyramids. Keep up the good work! Tallungs (talk) 08:52, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's completely understandable, I was aprehensive about using excel since I'm not that good with it, but it ended up working out alright. Thank you! By the way, how did you make your excess population in a darker colour? Ian Lautert da Costa (talk) 13:17, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're up to a good start. Excel charts are finicky, so the can take a while to learn all the tricks. The light colors is just the MIN() function for both sexes at each cohort. It's the exact same but mirrored for each sex. I make a stack bar chart. The male surplus is calculated as the MIN() of the difference between the sexes, as long as it's negative. Might be easier to show with an image: https://i.imgur.com/c5rUs5T.png
THe female surplus is the same but a MAX() function. You can calculate it in many ways, but that might give you a good start. Tallungs (talk) 02:06, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tallungs, @Ian Lautert da Costa I have tried creating a guide on here for people who want to make population pyramid graphs, not sure if my ways the most efficient or effective but gives a overview of how to try and replicate the side image example on the right anyway. @Tweedledumb2 Hey that's pretty neat! Tallungs (talk) 19:04, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
