Ciro Romano is a music festival promoter and lawyer best known for founding the annual Love Supreme Jazz Festival at Glynde Place.

Romano founded Neapolitan Music in 2001 and Neapolitan Live in 2011, is a former corporate lawyer (Clifford Chance) and was Head of Legal and Business Affairs at Universal Music International. [1]

After his successful career as a lawyer and record label executive he founded Neapolitan Music. Romano is now the festival director of Love Supreme Jazz Festival which he launched in July 2013 in Glynde, East Sussex. The Huffington Post declared it “the best new festival in the UK”[2] and the Guardian “the Glastonbury of Jazz”[3]. The event is now the largest outdoor jazz festival in Europe with a weekend attendance in excess of 50,000 and is routinely referenced as one of the top jazz festivals in Europe. [4][5]

Romano is also the founder of Nocturne Live at Blenheim Palace – a UNESCO world heritage site. Nocturne is widely considered the premiere stately home concert series in the UK. It has featured artists such as Elton John, Ennio Morricone, Kylie, Lauryn Hill, Noel Gallagher, Gary Barlow, Nile Rodgers, Tears For Fears, Gladys Knight, Van Morrison, Gregory Porter, Elvis Costello, Max Richter and Ludovico Einaudi.

[edit]

Romano was born and schooled in Glasgow. He studied law following which he won a scholarship to study for a Masters in Antitrust Law at the European University Institute in Florence (LL.M). He took his Diploma in Legal Practice and subsequently qualified as a lawyer specialising in corporate and commercial law in Glasgow.

Following a short stint at The European Commission in Brussels, Romano moved to Clifford Chance in the City where he specialised in intellectual property law and company law.

[edit]

In 1995 Romano moved to Polygram Music where he was legal adviser in Corporate Legal before rising to Director of Legal and Business affairs.

Following the acquisition of PolyGram by Seagram in 1999, Romano became Vice President of Legal and Business affairs at Universal Music before leaving to set up Neapolitan in 2001.

[edit]

Romano is the co-owner of the soundtrack album of the multi-Oscar winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.[6] The album won 2 music Oscars and 2 Grammys and has sold more than two million albums worldwide and over 2 million singles.

In 2014, Neapolitan released the soundtrack to the hit No.1 film "Sunshine on Leith" based on the music of the Proclaimers, which became the bestselling UK soundtrack of the year.

Live Music and Festivals

[edit]

In 2011 Romano founded Neapolitan live and in 2013 launched Love Supreme Jazz Festival with Jazz FM. The festival initially struggled but rallied at the last minute due to a legendary Glastonbury performance by Nile Rodgers the week before boosting sales at the last minute [7]. Since then the festival has grown to become one of the largest Jazz Festivals in Europe attacting 50,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. As well as the annual festivals in Glynde Romano has also promoted small shows under the Love Supreme banner at The Roundhouse and other smaller London venues as "Supreme Standards."

In 2015 U-Live bought out Jazz FM's share of Love Supreme to become Romano's co-promoter and in the same year he launched Nocturne Live at Blenheim Palace which has since hosted the likes of Kylie Minogue, Elton John, Ms. Lauryn Hill and many more.

In 2020 Romano and U-Live joined with Tortoise Media to launch KITE Festival, to be the first greenfield festival of music and ideas [8]. The first edition of the festival was scheduled to take place in 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
