List of temples page concern

[edit]

Hello. In additoin to providing you with a welcome message and tools you can use (including getting help with any questions you might have), I wanted to reach out to you about this edit you made to the List of temples page. One of the core values of Wikipedia is civility towards other uders (especially to those with whom you may not see eye-to-eye). The edit summary you gave included your utilizing coarse language towards another user who merely reverted an edit because it was not properly sourced. Unfortunately, getting mad and cursing directed to other users won't fix any misunderstandings. Please remember to assume good faith on the part of other users, and please try to be civil in your edit summaries. I don't want you to feel bad about your reaction in this case, but wanted to let you know that it would be best to not reply that way in the future. All who edit here are just doing the best they can with the information (or the lack thereof) that they might have on hand. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation in regards to this matter. Again, welcome to Wikipedia, and please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you might have as a new contributor here. Thanks. Jgstokes (talk) 23:33, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources needed for pt.wikipedia

[edit]

So far zero attempts to add reliable referencing has been done on Portugues Temple List page since the page deletion request was made. I listed my reasoning for use of primary sources, although an entire page of primary sourcing from a private religious organization does violate Portuguese WP:V and it will be taken down if no improvements are made.

Feel free to contact me if you need help finding reliable secondary sources.

This has some additional pertinent information for 118 temples announced by president nelson. You can use this as references for those temples as each link shows size and status info for most of these temples. This is still considered primary source because Deseret News is owned by the Church, but still an acceptable reliable source. You can use this in addition to the official website link.

For the most recent temples, here is an example article. Salt Lake Tribune is a reliable secondary source since it's a notable news organization not affiliated with the church. You maybe able to find one in Portuguese that will say the same.

Canada Map Template

[edit]
  • What pages is this template being used? Is it intended for the individual template pages? The LDS Temple Maps templates were created to make one editing location for content spread over multiple pages. If template is only for content for one page, then it's easier to edit in the page than creating and using a template. I usually use templates when it's used in 3+ pages but on occasionally when it's used in two.
  • Please use naming convention used for LDS Temple Map Templates. If one is needed for Canada, use LDS Temple Map Canada and not LDS Temple World Canada.
  • Template page needs to be categorized. "Category:LDS temple map templates" is used for most these templates although subcategories may need to be created due to amount of existing templates.
  • The added "edit" function will not work if name is different than the template name.

I'm going to need to revert this unless you can get this corrected. Thanks - Dmm1169 (talk) 17:31, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can made that changes. you are totally free Joaosilva2000 (talk) 19:35, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've got the page updated and now showing in 11 pages (9 temple pages, LDS in Canada, & geographic page). Dmm1169 (talk) 21:05, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Joaosilva2000. Thank you for your effort on this. I won't be able to regularly work on this much longer as I start my new job on the 30th. You did this with good intent and good effort, and it will be good to have someone to handle things when I'm unable to. Just these templates get a little tricky sometimes as they're used in more than the latest page you were looking at.
These temple map templates are generally found on the following locations:
  • Individual temple pages
  • LDS in [State/Country] pages ie. (LDS in Canada).
  • List of Temples Geographic page.
But not necessarily on each of these location. For example Eastern US temples uses separate map templates than the states.
Due to the amount of effort required to create and edit, I generally use templates if there's three or more pages to place, although I have used them when there's just two pages. Dmm1169 (talk) 21:24, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Double Vision

[edit]

You've made edits to Template:LDS Temple Map North Mexico, Template:LDS Temple Map Central Mexico, Template:LDS Temple Map Southeast Mexico and others. I'm seeing double vision where templates are placed in these pages. Example: Guadalajara Mexico Temple.

I've corrected all pages using Template:LDS Temple Map Argentina and Template:LDS Temple Map Mexico. Please go through "What links here" under tools on each template page and check to see how it shows in each page, and I'll do the same. There can be 10-20 pages for each of these Mexico Templates. I'll try to do the same. Don't add edit lines to any more until these changes can be made.

Also, some below lines I intentionally left off to fit better in geographic page as adding the line can increase the row height where there wasn't otherwise room. Thanks! - Dmm1169 (talk) 17:49, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think I got this fixed for the Mexico Temples. Again please check on implications to other pages that use the same template when editing templates. That was a bit of extra work I had to do. Thanks! - Dmm1169 (talk) 18:58, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just did my job, if its correct i dont really know, i hope if that helps a little bit Joaosilva2000 (talk) 19:31, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't my job. I'm assuming you're not employed by Wikipedia either. Each edit may have helped one page, but messed up 10 to 20 others for each of those edits. I spent two hours trying to fix the others.
Just remember to do a quick check on how it looks on the other pages before moving on to changing other templates. If you don't know what other pages link to the template, click "what links here". That's what it's there for. If it looks good, great! If it's the only page, great! If not, either revert the edit or fix the other pages to what you just did.
It's good to have another editor. I've had to do a lot of learning and a lot of adjusting in order to conform with Wikipedia guidelines and respect. I'm not going to be able to do near as much in a couple of weeks and any additional editors on these pages will be helpful. Thanks - Dmm1169 (talk) 03:02, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We need more editors, i agree Joaosilva2000 (talk) 06:02, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just moved that lines because dont have necessity to stay in "main page", its more easier that way Joaosilva2000 (talk) 19:28, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The easiest thing to do is edit the content that's on the page rather than editing in a template. Prior to it now being used verbatim across eleven pages, what was the necessity of this content leaving the "main page"? Dmm1169 (talk) 03:36, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agility, if you edit a template you will edit many more pages at the same time instead of editing many pages at a time Joaosilva2000 (talk) 06:02, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
