Deletion of Neldë

Why did you delete the page on the Neldë? What was wrong with it this time, or the first time? Please help me to understand. Eruanion, e Nelde (talk) 17:49, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Please see my answer at your talk page. The quick answer is that you recreated material deleted as the result of an AfD without making any significant improvements. -JodyB talk 14:23, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

How would i remake the page without having it deleted again? Eruanion, e Nelde (talk) 21:48, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm not sure you can. The discussion at WP:Articles for deletion/Neldë centered on the lack of sources for the article. The author was thought to be non-notable which makes it hard to demonstrate notability for the article. You must state why the subject of the article is important and then you must back it up with good sources. Please read WP:N and WP:RS. When you have the sources, let me know. -JodyB talk 00:08, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey, quick question. Would one be wrong to assume that changing a WikiProject page shortcut into a dab is a contoversial change? I reverted JPG-GR‎'s change of WikiProject Alabama's shortcut WPAL into a dab that was made to point to a defunct radio station(WPAL-FM) and to the project page. No reason was provided for the change but upon looking at their contribution history, I thought it looked a little fishy, beginning with the revision history at Template talk:Alabama-radio-station-stub. Just wondering if I should have left it as that user revised it, but I use the WPAL shortcut quite frequently and would like to be able to continue to do so. Altairisfartalk 10:17, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't really know. I always use WP:ALA to reach the page myself. I think creating a dab was unnecessary in this case because there is only one broadcast station with those letters, no AM and no TV. Should that change, the dab becomes needed in my judgment. That was a significant change and I think should have been discussed first. I am unaware of any policy that mandates such a dab although there could be some obscure page in the bowels of the wikipedia that so requires. I'll keep looking around and see what I can find.
In the interest of peace, I have left a message on his talk page explaning the revert. He probably just didn't give it much thought.
I am adding a link to the project page as a means of compromise, thus helping that editor accomplish he wishes while maintaining ours.
Not sure yet about the edit history, I'll check that too.

Thanks for your work, -JodyB talk 13:16, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much, I knew you would have a civil solution! BTW, Happy New Year. Altairisfartalk 16:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, nevermind. It has been reverted back to a dab. Altairisfartalk 18:19, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I saw it. Well if it makes him feel better...
I am looking at the redirect policy and will let you know. -JodyB talk 18:20, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, he may be right. See this discussion about redirects across namespaces. We probably need to let it go - JodyB talk 18:23, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I agree. I guess it needs to be removed from our project? The dab makes it pretty much useless for our purposes. Altairisfartalk 18:29, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking this guy, I have now blanked his userpage per WP:COPYVIO. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 19:04, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Sure, I was taking care of the user page and had an ec with you. He's just not even willing to talk. I think the next step is indef. Thanks for your work. -JodyB talk 19:07, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Didn't intend to step on your toes, I didn't realise we were doing the same thing! I now have him watchlisted in any case. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 21:17, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Not a problem at all. Thanks for your help. -JodyB talk 23:37, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holiday season and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 07:10, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of Alexander Arrechea' article

Hello,

I have created twice an article about Alexandre Arrechea and it was deleted twice. I would like to understand why you have deleted the article about Alexandre Arrechea? Did I do something wrong?

Thank you in advance —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amagon rosh (talkcontribs) 16:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

The article was a copyright violation of http://www.alexandrearrechea.com/. You must write the article in your own words, not in what was essentially a word for word repetition of the other website. Unless you quote it with quotation marks and properly give the source of the quote, it must be different. -JodyB talk 21:17, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for this answer, I will change it asap. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amagon rosh (talkcontribs) 08:51, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Question from your adoptee

Hey there, JodyB. Hope you had a nice set of holidays with your family; I certainly did. I just received this in my usertalk:

== adminship == Hello. After running into you at the College Football WikiProject, I went and took a look over your contribs, and you struck me as someone who would be a capable administrator. If you think you're up to it, I'll gladly nominate you at WP:RFA. Let me know of your decision. Wizardman 04:31, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

What do you think? Keeper | 76 16:00, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Probably so. I think you know your pluses and minuses. You seem to have the temperament and at present I am unaware of any problems that you have. I'll be pleased to co-nom you with Wizardman. Go ahead and begin completing the form but do not transclude it until both Wizardman and I have added our parts. You need to know this scrutiny may not be comfortable but t is necessary. You will do fine. -JodyB talk 00:16, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Completing what form? You mean the admin form? I'm afraid I'm completely lost here. I assumed that someone else (you, Wizardman -- whoever) did a nomination, and then I simply accepted it and answered a couple of questions. Am I supposed to start a process somewhere, and if so, that's fine, but can you provide a link? Keeper | 76 00:24, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
I have it started. Give me a few and I will send you the link. -JodyB talk 12:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
The link is [1]. I'll post to Wiz too. -JodyB talk 12:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, here goes! I answered the first 3 questions and I want to say thanks, regardless of the outcome, for your hard work on the adoption page, and very good advice throughout. Especially thanks for your sincere (I hope :-)words of praise on the RfA. Ah, shucks. Keeper | 76 16:12, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
The answers look good. Let's give Wizardman some time. I will transclude it for you tomorrow. You must be able to be online frequently during the RfA to answer any questions. I will watch it carefully. Do not feel like to have to reply to every comment someone makes. You do need to answer evey question however. Take your time and email me if there is a question you need to discuss. I get my email instantly via my Blackberry and I might not be on line. -JodyB talk 17:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Oops, I just transcluded it after User:A. B. popped in on my talkpage. Didn't see this message from you (obviously) until now. Haven't heard boo from Wizardman, but that's fine by me. If he adds a co-nom, I'd be flattered of course, but I'm happy with how it looks now if he doesn't. Thanks for everything JB - Keeper | 76 17:38, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Copyright

Hi There,

I have a question about image's copyright. I have uploaded an image of Harold Lopez Nussa : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Harold-lopez-nussa.jpg and I receive a message in my profile. It is said that i need to inform which right I have otherwise it will be deleted. I have the full right to use this picture for Wikipedia. What should I do?

Thank you in advance —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amagon rosh (talkcontribs) 16:45, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Let me ask, did you take the photograph yourself? If so, you can simply release it to the public domain. Or, you can release it under one of the GFDL licenses. You must show the source of the image and the license. It's rather complicated at first but it is necessary. -JodyB talk 17:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

No I didn't take the photo myself. It is someone else who gives me the right to use it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amagon rosh (talkcontribs) 10:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

The person who actually took the picture needs to send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org specifically stating that they release the rights under either the public domain or GFDL. OTRS will handle it from there. -JodyB talk 12:22, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

User:Asgardian sockpuppetry

I think a check user might need to be run on User:Asgardian and User:Darrell37. Brief over shows, comprable edits only made during times when the Asgardian has been blocked (initial Darrell37 starting after Asgardian was blocked), directed insult to a user that Asgardian was edit warring with, pages have been editted on pages Asgardian frequents. I'm not sure how to further investigate this matter, but it seems you've been abreast of the situation. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 01:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC).

I looked at the two and really don't see a need for checkuser here. The two have edited similar articles and seem to have an interest in comic book characters. But the account was created during a time when Asgardian was not blocked and edits have occurred both when blocked and when not blocked. I think this would be a fishing expedition which we do not do with checkuser. If you have specific diffs showing the problems you mention, please list the at the bottom of the Asgardian case at WP:RFCU. It is possible I missed something. -JodyB talk 12:08, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for looking into this matter. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 20:27, 10 January 2008 (UTC).

Recently declined speedy

Okay, after looking through the cat's again and then reading the main paragraph, it's clear to me that it's blatant copyvio... Especially the use of the word "we" in there... But, it's your call. ScarianCall me Pat 20:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Unless we are looking at different places on their website, I don't see the copyvio. A diff would be useful and I would be glad to re-check. I do notice that you are adding CSD within a minute of creation of some articles. Perhaps it would be better to give people a least a little time to develop the article. Many people save as they work. Now, you may often be correct that the article proves to be speediable, but as for me, more time is helpful. -JodyB talk 20:17, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I realised that too. You are correct, it is logical to wait. I apologise. I'll "hold my horses" next time, I promise :-) - And, as a sign of good faith, I'll clean up that art museum article. ScarianCall me Pat 20:20, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey, not a problem. I absolutely appreciate your dedication. -JodyB talk 20:21, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Post Credits Scene MedCabal case

Heya. Thanx for the message :) With regards to the case i was gonna leave it till January 20 so that it would have been one full week from his account being blocked and to ensure that his IP doesnt change, before closing the case and notifying the parties concerned. This case i joined as i noticed that not much activity had occured but i was oblivious to the fact the other mediator had been blocked which i was a little unmediatorial of me. I havn't done much with this case as i have been tied up at ArbCom with something, and my FAC, plus my own problems in real life. Do you think its worth waiting a little bit to see if this user gets a new IP as i get a feeling he is dues to be issued a new IP soon if the last length of time of an IP change is repeated. Seddon69 (talk) 21:01, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

If he is on a dynamic ip address, it could change very quickly or it could hang around for a while. Before I moved to a static address mine changed very rarely. My thinking would be to close the case and notify an admin if he comes back. It seems it has gone beyond a content dispute and I would block him if he continued without discussion. I'll watchlist the article and the medcab case, let me know if I can help. -JodyB talk 21:07, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I think what ill do then is watchlist the article as well and keep a record of the IP. Close this case, and then keep an eye on things. Would you say the case was successful? Seddon69 (talk) 21:35, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, I hate to say anything is a sucess when it requires the blocking of someone, but in this case I would say it is a successful close. You accomplished a settlement to the issue albeit with a hammer. I don't think you had any other options. -JodyB talk 10:23, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Peter F. Paul case

Heya JodyB. I noticed you'v taken this case. I was in the middle of looking over it and saw you took the case so i was wondering if its ok if i could just keep an eye on the case and give my £0.02 worth if i have something that pops into my head that i want to say. Ill concentrate the case i have taken atm as it proving that the parties are pretty stubborn, but ill give comment to this case if i feel the need to. Is that ok? Seddon69 (talk) 14:13, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Sure, another set of eyes is always fine. -JodyB talk 14:15, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Deletion Review

A speedy deletion you made sometime ago as a copyvio has been questioned at deletion review as someone with the print sources mentioned doesn't believe it is a copyvio. I don't know if you had any further background to the claim of a copyvio such as further verifying it, so perhaps you could clarify that at the review. If you didn't have anything beyond someone saying it is (without backing up that claim), perhaps you can restore it and save the multi-day discussion time. --81.104.39.63 (talk) 19:25, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I left a note but the entire matter is irrelevant as the article was fixed and the disucssion is based on an error. The deletion was from a website, not a print source and was almost three months ago. -JodyB talk 22:13, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Hoping to be adopted

Hi,

I just started a new account and getting back into editing/writing (wrote a few pages a year ago). I'd love to get some guidance as I start again, I don't know much of the conventions and policies about how to go about contributing and editing. I'm interested in general involvement in the community and also in researching/writing articles on different topics with an emphasis on history, IT, and Social Networks (I'm a programmer). You seem like a really good fit and I'm wondering if your taking on any other adoptees? Thanks alot! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Volde1234 (talkcontribs) 18:35, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
