WP:NJSCR Newsletter #3

The New Jersey State and County Route Newsletter
Issue 3 – March 2007

Issue #3

The third issue of the WP:NJSCR newsletter celebrates the completion of infoboxes for all current state routes. Congratulations team!

Project News
  • All current state routes now have an infobox. Route 183 was selected to represent the project in the header as the last article to receive one.
  • Now that we have that done, what's left? Plenty! A to-do list has been posted on the project page, with a more detailed version at WT:NJSCR#To-do list. The simple version:
    • Ensure that all freeway exit lists are up to exit list guide standards.
    • Make sure all infoboxes have the new maint= parameter.
    • Make sure the straight line diagram is properly referenced in the infobox.
    • Add a major intersections table to each article.
Member of the Month
  • The member of the month is Alansohn, who had the fantastic idea for a "final run-through" and the to-do list.

US 60 Redirect

Please in the future Move an article, rather than copy and pasting and then doing a Redirect, as it completely destroys the edit history of anyone that helped create the article and removes them from the history of that article. Thank you. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 13:38, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't know who to do that. -- JA10 T · C 16:10, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Thats OK. I rarely do it myself. Here's the info on it though WP:MOVE. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 16:23, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Next time I'll remember, thanks for understanding, road pages are named U.S. Route XX. -- JA10 T · C 16:31, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Likewise. I was not aware the naming convention applied to state detail pages, but it does make sense. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 17:19, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Ok, please make the exit list compliant to WP:IH/ELG and if its a junction list too see [1] and see Pennsylvania Route 60 for an example of what to do, thank you. -- JA10 T · C 17:37, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
You know what forget it, i'll fix that exit list for you. -- JA10 T · C 17:40, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I've been working on a junction list for the route, but the instructions are less than vague. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 17:42, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Whe doing a junction list follow this, it shows how to do it right. -- JA10 T · C 17:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I saw those... it never said to use the postal abriviation for the state name. Thats why I said the instructions are vague. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 17:47, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Exit List is cleaned up. Talk to a more experienced WP:USRD editor, for help on the junction list. -- JA10 T · C 18:10, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Johnny. I've used the rowspans in the past for certain columns, but when people tried to edit the exit list, they would screw it up, so I stopped using them. Thanks though. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 18:15, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem, glad to help. -- JA10 T · C 18:16, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Question though. Why are we adding the Mile column in the exit list, when the exit number represents the mile? Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 18:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
The mile can be a four to five digit number to be more exact, those are the required columns of WP:IH/ELG. -- JA10 T · C
"If no mileposts exist (are not measured by the state DOT) or that state's department of transportation does not use mileposts more precise than to the nearest mile and the state uses a mileage-based exit numbering system, then this column can be combined with the exit number column. I'm going to remove this column per this line in the exit list guide. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 18:24, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Oh, remove it them, I didn't know. -- JA10 T · C 18:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

your comments at FAC

I'm sorry to have upset you. I'd need help to prepare a nomination myself, so don't feel downcast about your own writing. Collaboration is the key. Tony 22:30, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

It's okay, I should'nt have made those comments, I really want that article to become an FA and you were helping me out and I was disrespectful. I'm sorry for that. Please if there's anything else wrong with this article, just talk about it and I won't get upset. Thank you. -- JA10 T · C 23:35, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

PA 145

I was simply trying to make the existing text clearer. I must have misinterpreted it. Sorry. —Scott5114 21:54, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Johnny, I don't live in Pennsylvania but rather in Adelaide, South Australia. I searched for books on the route via google (books search) and library searches. Still the best bet is to get librarians to help as titles and authors still don't tell all. The library of congress is good for searching as it contains a huge amount of information - Peripitus (Talk) 01:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Category spelling error

You spelled Category:GA-Class Lehigh Valley articles wrong when you first created it, creating it in article space as Cateogry:GA-Class Lehigh Valley articles. I've created the correct category for you and tagged the old page with {{db-g6}}. Have a good day! Mr.Z-mantalk¢ 23:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Allentown 1900s.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Allentown 1900s.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

I am very sorry I though the Library of Congress tag was enough but I guess it wasn't. -- JA10 T · C 03:08, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you very much for reviewing 2005 Texas vs. Ohio State football game. I am sorry about the problem with reference 5 - that is on my to-do list to fix. I'm glad it was not sufficient to hold the article up from making GA. Thanks again for your time. Johntex\talk 18:18, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

SR 1002

Grammar problems were by far not the only problem, just the most obvious. I also listed a number of other issues. --NE2 21:45, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Please read the Good article criteria. The article is not well written, not factually accurate, and not verifiable. Please discuss this on the talk page of the article. --NE2 21:48, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Where did I assume you were the nominator? I remembered you having issues with "trolls", probably your brother. Your brother was probably the nominator. --NE2 21:52, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I have nothing against you; please read assume good faith and no personal attacks. If you believe my close was incorrect, you can take it to Good article review to get more opinions. --NE2 22:02, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

It probably is bad faith nom: this is the user's first edit. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 22:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

You really need to cool it. Even if you were eventually proven right (although just because it was the user's first edit doesn't necessarily mean it was bad faith), starting an AfD discussion with "Speedy keep because it's bad faith" is entirely inappropriate. With regards to NE2's review of "your" article, he was well within his rights to fail it. Good grammar and well written prose is one of the criteria at What is a good article?, and in his humble opinion, this article didn't meet it. I made the same assessment recently on County Route 676 (Middlesex County, New Jersey). Also, per WP:OWN, there's no such thing as "my article" or "your article", so that sort of language should stop. -- NORTH talk 22:23, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Where did you get this from? Also, per WP:OWN, there's no such thing as "my article" or "your article", so that sort of language should stop. -- JA10 T · C 22:34, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Not to be mean or anything, but that wasn;t a good idea to complain to NE2 like that. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 22:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
I just lost my cool that's all. -- JA10 T · C 22:38, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
You don't own Wikipedia articles, so NE2 isn't reviewing your articles, just some article on a secondary state highway in Pennsylvania. -- NORTH talk 22:42, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah whatever I get it. If you all want to be against me here, that's fine. I spent all of that hard work on the article for nothing. -- JA10 T · C 22:44, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
A B-class article is far from nothing, and it deosn't need that much more work to be a GA. And as NE2 pointed out, if you disagree with the assessment, you can always send it to review. I had to do that with Interstate 295 (Delaware-New Jersey), and was successful there. -- NORTH talk 22:47, 2 May 2007 (UTC) Heh, I see you've already done this. My bad. -- NORTH talk 22:55, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

If a non-"road fan" had reviewed the article, we might have had a Good article with serious factual problems. The article had been sitting on the list for a few weeks, and needed someone to review it. --NE2 20:05, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

By the way, I made some corrections to the early history. --NE2 20:06, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I might have a look at the article some more later. However, it would be very useful to have some contemporary newspaper access talking about the road and when US 22 was moved to it. The viaduct was apparently built in 1929, but it was a little while longer before US 22 was moved to it. --NE2 20:12, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Can't you go to the main Allentown library and access them for free? There's probably some sort of index to make searching easier. --NE2 20:23, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
You can take notes and put them on the talk page, such as "According to The Morning Call, May 31, 1935, Tilghman Street became a state highway." Now I'm not sure if you'll be successful in finding that information, but it may be worth a try. It's up to you. --NE2 20:29, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

If you or anyone else can get the text of the act of June 22, 1931 (P.L.594, No.203), entitled "An act establishing certain township roads as State highways...", I have reason to believe that it might relate to SR 1002. --NE2 00:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Starting with the Sproul Road Bill, routes were legislatively defined. Those are the numbers on the very early maps and the small numbers next to the roads on the later county maps. --NE2 00:49, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that's an act from 1971 amending a small portion of the 1931 act. I've looked online and haven't found anything useful. --NE2 00:59, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
You should be able to cite the videolog; just give the access date. --NE2 01:18, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

I replied on the article's talk page. --NE2 23:08, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
