Hans Christian Andersen Page Rhetorical Analysis

[edit]

+Lead section is understandable; summarizes HCA’s contributions and professions without delving too deep or giving excessive examples. No language problems.

+Clear structure; flows from biography to career to personal life with appropriate headings. For the most part chronological

+/-- Sources look to be reliable, and there is at least fifty footnotes. But there is a need for citations in the Legacy and cultural influence section, which can make the information seem less valid.

-- The talk page was filled with hostile dialogue. Editors could not find common ground over writing about HCA’s sexuality. There were instances where the information was put up and torn down in spite, only then to be put up again in spite. Also, there appeared to be one editor that was domineering toward the rest, who seemed to be the one that instigated a lot of the hostile dialogue and action.

All in all this seemed like a good page with minor set backs. Something that could, of course, be in improved with time, but not horrendously inaccurate or damaging.

4. The article was started in October of 2001. In its early stages, it looked very simple, whith no headings or subheading. There was just a general biography about him with qualifying and ‘verbose’ language. There were no citations. Material was added shortly after by LA2 and the article picked up with close to monthly contributions thereafter by various users. It seems to have been in this recent stage from at least 2013, with minor edits continuously made. Edits have been going on throughout March.

5. Editors seemed to use it a lot to talk about controversial information and how to present it. Users were decently active, given the different time periods of use. When editors were most active was during a dispute about what information regarding HCA’s sexuality should be put on the page, and whether it violates WIkipedia standards to put or not put that information up there. The tone started off demeaning and ended as hostile for the most part. Yes and no; certain editors I saw were listed quite a lot as making edits in the hisrtory page, and others seemed to just pitch their own two sense before leaving.

Edits made: Minor edits made to grammar in “ Early Life” section.
